Coming off a week one win over the Superior Heights Steelhawks, the (1-0) St Mary’s Knights hit the field on Thursday, September 16th to take on the (0-1) White Pines Wolverines in Sault Ste Marie High School junior football action at Superior Heights to open week two of the football season in Sault Ste Marie.
After a 26 yard pass by Knights quarterback Matti Tucker At 9:02 of the opening quarter, Nolan Wilding carries the ball three yards to give St Mary’s a 6 – 0 lead. Nate Carter adds a single point to give the Knights a 7 – 0 lead. After catching a 40 yard pass from Tucker, Carter runs 10 yards into the Wolverines endzone to bring the lead to 13 – 0 at 6:13 of the second quarter. Carter convert was blocked by White Pines Nashoba Moore to the game at 13 – 0. With 92 seconds remaining the second quarter, Carter finds the uprights for a 14 yard field goal to increase the lead to 16 – 0 for St Mary’s.
With time ticking down until half, Noah Boyer rushes the ball for a 12 yard touchdown carry with 31.4 seconds left in the half. Nate Carter adds the single point on the Knights convert. At 7:22 of the third, Tucker finds Candon O’Neill in the Wolverines endzone with a 12 yard pass to give the Knights a 30 – 0 lead. For his second field goal of the game with nine minutes remaining in Thursday’s contest, Carter kicks a 22 yard field goal to give St Mary’s their second straight win of the 2021 season.
Wolverine coach Cody Boissoneau told Saultsports that “tonight, St Mary’s and their staff did a great job. They are a talented physical football team. On our side of the ball we need to execute better. We are going to continue to work and try to improve each week. “
Next up for the Knights will be the Korah Colts on Friday, September 24th in a 4:45 p.m start while Wolverines face the Superior Heights Steelhawks in a 6:00 p.m kickoff on Thursday, September 23rd.
