Knights Capture 2025 NOSSA Junior Football Championship with Dominant Victory Over Lo-Ellen

After capturing the 2025 Sault Ste. Marie High School Junior Football City Championship on October 23rd at Superior Heights with a hard-fought win over the Korah Colts, the St. Mary’s Knights carried their momentum into the 2025 Northern Ontario Secondary Schools Athletics (NOSSA) Junior Football Championships — and made a powerful statement.

Facing the Lo-Ellen Knights, St. Mary’s came out strong, opening the first quarter with two touchdowns and successful extra points to take a 14–0 lead. The visitors continued to control the game in the second quarter, adding a field goal to hold a 17–7 advantage at halftime.

Late in the third quarter, St. Mary’s turned up the pressure, forcing a key Lo-Ellen fumble that led to a touchdown early in the fourth to make it 30–7 after a successful convert. Capitalizing again on another fumble recovery, the Knights found the end zone once more to seal a commanding 36–7 victory — securing the 2025 NOSSA Junior Football Championship title for Sault Ste. Marie.

Following the win, St. Mary’s head coach Tony Boniferro reflected on the season’s journey, telling Saultsports, “This is just a culmination of a storybook season. Our players deserve this. They cemented their legacy. This has just made us more hungry. This is an amazing feeling and something we hope to do again. But for now, all the credit goes to our players. They worked hard and deserve this.”

With the victory, the St. Mary’s Knights not only bring home another banner for their school but also continue to raise the bar for junior football excellence in Sault Ste. Marie.
