The White Pines Wolverines and Superior Heights Steelhawks took to the turf at Superior Heights on Thursday, October 14th for their final regular season games for the 2021 junior football season.
At 10:15 of the second quarter, Linden Devries bounces a 16 yard field goal of the uprights to give the Wolverines a 3 – 0 lead. Tye Rushon carries the ball 49 yards for a Steelhawk touchdown to give Superior Heights a 6 – 3 lead. With a Steelhawk two point conversion attempt unsuccessful Thursday’s game stays at 6 – 3 at 5:06 of the quarter. With 45.8 seconds remaining the first half, Devries kicks his second field goal of the contest from the 11 yard line to tie the game 6 – 6 for the Wolverines. Rushon runs for a two yard touchdown at 4:25 of the third to increase Superior Heights lead to 12 – 6. The Steelhawks second two point attempt wasn’t successful. Steelhawk quarterback Daikaden Gauthier-Long scores the third touchdown of the game with 35.8 remaining in the game with a two yard carry to give Superior Heights a 20 – 6 win after a Rushon two point conversion.
Steelhawks coach Jared Klooster told Saultsports that “tonight was great effort by both teams. Gritty football game. We made stops when we needed to in second half and were able to sustain some long drives that ate up the clock. We feel like we’re improving every week and looking forward to the semi final.”
“Overall I thought we played well. We knew Superior was going to was going to come prepared. Superior had some big plays on both sides of the ball. I thought our guys battled hard and their efforts put us in situations to have success. It was nice to see that effort and watch our guys grow as football players,” said Wolverine coach Cody Boissoneau.
The junior semi-finals will be determine after Friday, October 15th with a Korah Colts vs St Mary’s Knight meeting at Superior Heights with a 4:45 p.m kickoff. Listen live on Saultsports Radio for both junior and senior matchups on October 15th.
