High School Boys Basketball Tipped Off 2025–2026 Season with Four-Game Opening Night

The 2025–2026 high school boys basketball season officially tipped off on Thursday, December 4th, with a full slate of junior and senior action across the city. The Wolverines hosted the St. Mary’s Knights at White Pines, while the Korah Colts welcomed the Superior Heights Steelhawks to Korah Collegiate. Opening night delivered strong performances, decisive wins, and a preview of the talent fans can expect this season.

In the junior division, the Superior Heights Steelhawks defeated the Korah Colts 47 – 33.

The Steelhawks opened their season with a convincing win on the road, powered by standout scoring from Nik Joseph, who led all players with 19 points. Isaiah Davies added 11 points, giving Superior Heights a steady offensive rhythm throughout the night.

Korah battled hard behind a balanced effort, with Paxton Brodie scoring 14 points, while Che Grengs and Alex Farrell chipped in 8 points each. Despite the push, the Colts couldn’t close the gap as Superior Heights controlled the pace from start to finish.

In the other junior contest, the White Pines Wolverines fell to the St. Mary’s Knights 64 – 30.

At White Pines, the Knights came out firing, securing a dominant win to open their junior campaign. Lukas Maninos set the tone with a game‑high 20 points, while Jakhol Penney added 13 points in a strong two‑way performance.

White Pines showed flashes of momentum, led by Tristan Stadnisky‑Mayhew, who finished with 10 points, but the Wolverines struggled to match the Knights’ depth and transition scoring.

On the senior side, the Superior Heights Steelhawks won 45 – 42 over the Korah Colts.

The senior matchup at Korah delivered the most dramatic finish of the night. Superior Heights edged out the Colts in a tight, defensive battle that came down to the final possessions.

The Steelhawks were led by Nicolas Frost, who poured in 18 points, while Drayden Brock added 14 and Jackson Teresinski contributed 11. Korah countered with a balanced attack—Grayson Turco scored 10 points, and Tristan Cote added 9—but the Colts ultimately fell just short in the closing minute.

At White Pines Wolverines won 57 – 36 over the visiting St. Mary’s Knights.

The Wolverines closed out opening night with a strong statement on their home court, securing a 21‑point victory over the Knights. Ethan McCorkell led the way with 16 points, while Anthony Hunt added 14 and Garrin Pine chipped in 11, giving White Pines a well-rounded offensive showing.

St. Mary’s saw contributions from Amare Boateng (8 points) and Gabe Banlayas (7 points), but the Knights struggled to slow the Wolverines’ pace in the second half.

Looking ahead, the boys junior and senior seasons continue on December 8th, when the Wolverines host the Colts at White Pines. The Knights return to action on December 11th, traveling to Superior Heights to take on the Steelhawks. Tipoff times are 5:30 p.m. (junior) and 7:00 p.m. (senior).
