In the third game of the day to open the 2022 Sault Ste Marie High School football season, the White Pines Wolverines hit the turf to face the St Mary’s Knights in junior high school gridiron action.
2:25 into the opening quarter, Noah Boyer rushes for a three yard touchdown carry to open the scoring for the Knights to give St Mary’s a 6 – 0 lead. At 4:32 of the quarter, St Mary’s earns a single point to bring their lead to 7 – 0. As the first quarter ends, the Wolverines earn one point for White Pines to close the gap to 7 – 1. Quarterback Alex Hayes runs the ball for a three yard carry to increase the Knights lead to 15 – 1 at 9:20 of the second quarter. Beau Primeau adds to points to the Knights lead with carrying the ball into the Wolverines endzone for two to give St Mary’s a 15 – 1 lead. Scoring his second major of the contest, quarterback Hayes rushes for a four yard touchdown at 1:50 of the second. With Hayes touchdown, the Knights were up 21 – 1.
With 11.2 seconds remaining in the half, Cole Rivet adds to St Mary’s lead with a two yard carry to bring the lead to 28 – 1 after an Ethan Agawa successful convert. Knight quarterback Alex Hayes finds Amare Valente-Boateng in White Pines with a 12 yard pass to give St Mary’s a 35 – 1 lead with Agawa finding the uprights for the Knights at 6:51 of the third. With a 32 yard carry, Wolverine quarterback Garrin Pine closes the gap to 29 for White Pines at 3:58 of the third quarter. Ethan McCorkell found the uprights for the Wolverines to bring White Pines witin 28. In the fourth quarter, the Knights scored one last touchdown to give St Mary’s a 42 – 8 win over the Wolverines.
