Coming off a 36 – 12 win a home on Saturday, June 3rd over the North Bay Bulldogs, the (2-0) Junior Varsity Sault Sabercats took to the field in Sault Ste Marie to host the (2-0) Sudbury Spartans at Superior Heights field.
At 6:24 of the opening quarter, Nathan Guizzetti rushes for a 67 yard touchdown carry to give the Sabercats a 6 – 0 lead. After an unsuccessful two point conversion, the game remains at 6 – 0. With the scoreboard at 0:00, Spartan quarterback Ian McDonald finds Dylan Nelson in the Sabercats end zone with a Sudbury 19 yard pass to bring the game tied 6 – 6. Paolo Grossi finds the uprights for the extra point on the convert to give the visitors a 7 – 6 lead. Ian McDonald fires a 16 yard pass to Quin Mazzuchin to run a 47 yard touchdown at 6:24 of the second quarter to increase the Spartans lead to 14 – 6 after Grossi convert. Guizzetti rushes for a 24 yard touchdown after a Tanner Dickinson inception at 3:24 of the second quarter to bring the Sabercats within two to close the gap to 14 – 12. With 75 seconds remaining in the half, Ian McDonald fires a 12 yard pass to Mazzuchin to carry a 49 yard run into the Sault end zone to give Sudbury a 21 – 12 lead after a successful convert by Grossi.
After evading three Spartan tackles, Guizzetti runs for his third major of the contest to pull the Sabercats within one at 11:48 of the fourth quarter with Guizzetti also catching a two point conversion attempt to bring the game to 21- 20. With a Sault 54 yard touchdown carry by Guizzetti at 10:48 of the quarter, Guizzetti gives the Sault a 28 – 21 lead after catching a two point conversion. Jonah Gibson catches a two yard pass from McDonald at 3:03 of the fourth to run a 59 yard touchdown carry to tie the game 28 – 28 after Grossi finds the uprights for Sudbury. Payton Melchiore gives the Sabercats a 34 – 28 win with a three yard carry with 51 seconds left in the June 10th matchup in Sault Ste Marie. Nathan Guizzetti would lead the Sabercats with a total of 329 yards rushed on 33 carries. On the defensive side, Tanner Dickinson had three inceptions along with Steve Day Nolan making 4.5 tackles for the Sault.

The Sabercats will now take their 3 – 0 record on the road for a 3:30 p.m matchup against the Clarington Knights on Saturday, June 17th.
