After earning a 4–3 shootout victory on the road in Flint against the Firebirds on Wednesday, March 4, the Soo Greyhounds continued their three-game road swing on Friday, March 6 with a stop in Kitchener to face the Rangers in Ontario Hockey League action.
Kitchener struck early in the opening period to set the tone for the evening. At the 3:42 mark, Jack Pridham opened the scoring with his 40th goal of the season, giving the Rangers a 1–0 lead. The goal came off assists from Sam O’Reilly and Dylan Edwards, as Kitchener capitalized on its early opportunity to get on the board.
Despite several chances from the Greyhounds throughout the game, Rangers goaltender Christian Kirsch was solid between the pipes, turning aside every shot he faced to keep Soo off the scoreboard.
After a scoreless second period, the Rangers extended their lead early in the third. While shorthanded at 3:37, Sam O’Reilly broke in and scored his 27th goal of the season unassisted, pushing the Kitchener advantage to 2–0.
The Greyhounds pressed late in the game in an effort to cut into the deficit, but the Rangers sealed the victory in the final minutes. With the Soo net empty, Jack Pridham scored his second goal of the night and 41st of the season at 17:23, with Matthew Andonovski picking up the assist, securing the 3–0 win for the home side.
In goal, Christian Kirsch recorded the shutout for Kitchener, stopping all 25 shots he faced. At the other end, Carter George was strong for the Greyhounds despite the loss, making 34 saves on 36 shots.
The Greyhounds will wrap up their three-game road trip on Saturday, March 7 when they travel to Guelph for a 4:07 p.m. matchup against the Storm.
