On Family Day, Monday, February 16th, the fourth-place Soo Greyhounds (33-16-1-4) wrapped up their three-game road trip with a stop in Sarnia to face the tenth-place Sting (16-32-5-1) in a Western Conference matchup. Sarnia entered the contest looking to rebound after an 11–3 loss to Saginaw on February 13th, while the Greyhounds came in riding momentum from a 6–5 shootout victory in Owen Sound over the Attack two nights earlier.

The opening period saw the Sting strike first at 12:44 when Jack Van Volsen scored his 17th of the season, finishing a play set up by Alessandro Di Iorio. The Greyhounds answered late in the frame at 15:02 as Noah Laus buried his 10th goal of the year, with Marco Mignosa and Quinn McKenzie picking up the assists, sending the game to the intermission tied 1–1.

Soo grabbed its first lead of the night early in the second period. At 7:11, Laus struck again for his 11th of the season and second of the game, converting a setup from Mignosa to make it 2–1 Greyhounds. Sarnia responded on the power play at 11:05 when Easton Walos notched his 21st of the campaign, assisted by Di Iorio and Ben Pickell. The Sting regained the lead at 14:47 as Liam Beamish scored his 10th, with Kaden Aucoin and Logan Hawery providing the helpers. Moments later, at 16:36, Jordan Bax added a shorthanded marker, his 15th of the season, unassisted, giving Sarnia a 4–2 edge.

The Greyhounds showed resilience late in the middle frame. At 18:53, Marco Mignosa scored shorthanded and unassisted, his 25th of the season and third point of the game, pulling Soo within one.

The third period delivered back-and-forth drama. At 6:20, Quinn McKenzie tied the game 4–4 with his 19th of the season, assisted by Mignosa—who recorded his fourth point of the night—and Lukas Fischer. Sarnia answered again at 13:32 when Brenner Lammens scored his eighth of the year, finishing a play started by Hawery, who earned his second point of the contest. The Greyhounds forced overtime late, as Christopher Brown batted a puck out of midair past Patrick Quinlan at 18:33 on the power play for his 18th of the season. Jordan Charron and Mignosa, who capped off a five-point performance, earned the assists on the tying goal.

Overtime solved nothing, sending the game to a shootout for the third straight contest—and third straight time on the Greyhounds’ road trip. Justin Cloutier scored for Soo, while Jack Van Volsen and Logan Hawery converted for Sarnia to give the Sting a 6–5 shootout victory.

In goal, Landon Miller made his first road start in six weeks for the Greyhounds, while Patrick Quinlan handled the duties for the Sting.

The Greyhounds will now return home to Sault Ste. Marie, where they’ll face the Sarnia Sting again on Friday, February 20th, with puck drop set for 7:07 p.m. at the GFL Memorial Gardens.
