The Soo Greyhounds broke through with their first win of the 2026 OHF U15AA Championships on Saturday, April 18th, defeating the London Knights 5–2 in Vaughan.
After a tightly played, scoreless first period, the game opened up in the second with a flurry of goals from both sides.
The Greyhounds struck first at 9:28, as Carson Mick scored his first of the championships, finishing a play set up by Ashlyn Rickard and Luke Thorburn to make it 1–0. The Knights responded at 6:42 when Tyler Beaulieu netted his second of the tournament, assisted by Hunter Trowhill, tying the game 1–1.
Soo quickly regained the lead at 5:58, with Jakob Mullin scoring his first of the championships off a feed from Jackson Marchand. The Greyhounds extended their advantage on the power play at 3:13, as Jackson Marchand picked up his first goal of the tournament, assisted by Matais Wellwood-Pulkkinen and Luke Thorburn, pushing the lead to 3–1.
London answered late in the period, also on the power play. At 0:27, Hunter Trowhill scored his first of the championships with an assist from Jack Tweedie, cutting the Greyhounds’ lead to 3–2 heading into the third.
In the final frame, the Greyhounds pulled away. Carson Mick added his second of the game and tournament on the power play at 8:47, with assists credited to James Stevens and Ashlyn Rickard, restoring a two-goal cushion. Soo sealed the win at 3:31, as Riely Deplonty scored his third of the championships, assisted by Mason McKechnie and Cole Braido, making it a 5–2 final.
Lucas Martin earned the win in goal for the Greyhounds with a steady performance, while Colby Campbell took the loss for the Knights.
With the victory, the Greyhounds carry momentum into the playoff round and will next face the host Vaughan Rangers in the quarter-final at 4:00 p.m. as they look to continue their run at the 2026 OHF U15AA Championships.
