Coming off a 3–0 loss in Kitchener on Friday, March 6th to the Kitchener Rangers, the fourth-place Soo Greyhounds (36-19-1-5) looked to get back on track as they travelled to Guelph for a late afternoon matchup against the sixth-place Guelph Storm (27-29-2-3) on Saturday, March 7th in Western Conference Ontario Hockey League action.
Entering the contest, the Storm held the edge in the season series with a 2–1 record against the Greyhounds during the 2025–2026 campaign. Their most recent meeting in Sault Ste. Marie was a tight defensive battle that saw Guelph escape with a narrow 1–0 victory on February 21st. The Storm also came into Saturday’s matchup riding momentum after an 8–1 victory over the Owen Sound Attack the night before in Guelph.
After a scoreless opening period, the Greyhounds found their breakthrough in the second.
At 4:15 of the second period, Harris Pangretitsch opened the scoring for the Soo with his second goal of the season, finishing a play for the Greyhounds’ 10th shot of the game to give the visitors a 1–0 lead. Brady Smith picked up the assist on the play.
The Greyhounds carried that one-goal advantage into the third period, where they added an important insurance marker early.
Just 1:58 into the third period, Jakub Winkelhofer extended the Soo lead to 2–0 with his seventh goal of the season, firing home a shot after receiving a setup from Christopher Brown, who delivered the puck from just inside the centre of the blueline.
That would be more than enough offense thanks to a stellar performance in net by Greyhounds goaltender Landon Miller. Miller turned aside all 27 shots he faced, recording his third shutout of the season and six of his career. The performance was also notable as it marked the first time during the 2025–2026 season that a Storm opponent has recorded a shutout in Guelph. At the other end, Zach Jovanovski made 21 saves on 23 shots for the Storm in the loss.
With the victory, the Greyhounds bounced back strongly following the previous night’s defeat and continued to solidify their position in the Western Conference standings.
The Greyhounds will now return to the road for a short two-game trip. Their next stop will be Windsor on March 12th to take on the Spitfires before heading to Flint on Friday, March 13th to face the Firebirds.
