GREYHOUND REPORT: Greyhounds Sink Six to Open 2022 with a Two Game Sweep in Sudbury

The first place west division (17-10-2 Soo Greyhounds were back in action on Tuesday, January 4th in Sudbury to meet the fourth place (8-15-2) Wolves. The Greyhounds are coming off a 4 – 2 win over the Wolves in Sudbury on January 2nd to open 2022.

With Tanner Dickinson sitting all alone in front of Sudbury goaltender Mitchell Weeks’ net 7:76 into the first, Dickinson fires a wrist shot over the Wolves goaltender’s right shoulder to give the Soo a 1 – 0 lead. Tyler Savard and Caeden Carlisle drew the assists on Dickinson’s 13th of the season. Scoring his 25th of the season at 18:51 of the opening period and the Soo’s second of the contest, Tye Kartye finds the back of the Weeks’ net all alone in the Wolves zone to bring the lead to 2 – 0. Dickinson and Justin Cloutier notched the helpers on Kartye’s powerplay goal. With Greyhound rookie Samuel Ivanov out of position in the Soo crease, Sudbury defenseman Liam Ross finds an open right side of the visitors net to close the gap to one for the Wolves with 51 seconds remaining in the period to send the game into the first intermission 2 – 1 for the Greyhounds. Nolan Collins and Quentin Musty added the assists on Ross’ fourth of the season.

41 seconds past the halfway mark of the second period, Ethan Montroy picks up a rebound off of Bryce McConnell – Barker snapshot to find the back of Sudbury’s net to slide the Greyhounds third under Weeks’ left pad to restore a Soo two goal lead. Marco Mignosa registered the other contributor on Montroy’s second of the season. Kalvyn Watson lifts a rebound wrist shot into the back of the Wolves’ of a Tye Kartye slapshot 12:48 into the middle stanza to give the Greyhounds lead to 4 – 1. Jacob Holmes added the second assist on Watson’s fourth of the season. With Weeks’ sprawled across the Wolves’ crease and the Greyhounds on a powerplay, Tyler Savard sinks his fifth of the season at 2:29 of the third with McConnell – Barker and Holmes setting up the Soo’s fifth of the contest. From the bottom of the left faceoff circle, Caeden Carlisle scores his third of the season through Week’s five hole to give the Greyhounds a 6 – 1 lead. Cloutier and Kirill Kudryavtsev drawing the helpers at 6:37. Sudbury goaltenders Mitchell Weeks and Jonathan Lamaire combined to stop 31 of 37 shots while Greyhound netminder Sam Ivanov turned away 27 of 28 shots along with earning his 13th win of the season in his first start since December 5, 2021.

The Greyhounds are to host the Windsor Spitfires on January 7th and 8th in Sault Ste Marie with puck drop of 7:07 pm for both games. Due to government restrictions, there will be an announcement made by the Ontario Hockey League on Wednesday, January 5th to inform OHL fans what is in store until the 26th of January.
