Grbich Leads the Black Sox Past the Oakville A’s in Simcoe

On Sunday afternoon in Simcoe, Ontario, the Soo 15U Black Sox took to the field for their final game of the 2026 15U Major Bantam A Tournament during the May 22nd to 24th weekend, squaring off against the Oakville A’s. Due to wet weather conditions on May 23rd, tournament organizers were forced to cancel the semifinal and championship rounds, bringing the event to an early conclusion.

Devon Grbich collected three hits in four at bats, as the Soo defeated the A’s 18-1 on Sunday. Devon Grbich hit a home run to left field in the first inning, singled in the third inning, and singled in the second inning.

The Black Sox jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Ethan Myers singled, scoring one run, Bryce Perrott singled, scoring one run, Devon Grbich homered to left field, scoring two runs, Luca D’Ulisse drew a walk, scoring one run, and Freddy Slukynsky drew a walk, scoring one run.

The Soo scored seven runs on five hits in the top of the second inning. An error scored one run, Gavin Bisaillon doubled, scoring two runs, Freddy Slukynsky doubled, scoring two runs, and Ethan Myers singled, scoring two runs.

The Black Sox added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Mitch McLeod was struck by a pitch, Luca D’Ulisse walked, Freddy Slukynsky walked, Mitch McLeod scored after tagging up, and Devon Grbich singled, each scoring one run.

Brayden Boulrice earned the win for the Soo. The southpaw surrendered one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out two and walking three. Vanderboor took the loss for Oakville. The starting pitcher went two and one-third innings, giving up 18 runs (12 earned) on 10 hits, striking out four and walking 12. Damian Beharriell appeared in relief for the Black Sox.

The Soo piled up 11 hits in the game. Ethan Myers and Freddy Slukynsky were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in four runs for the Black Sox. Bryce Perrott collected two hits for the Black Sox in two at bats. The Soo had patience at the plate, tallying 12 walks for the game. Mitch McLeod, Bryce Perrott, Kaleb Marrelli, Luca D’Ulisse, and Freddy Slukynsky led the team with two bases on balls each.

Attard led the A’s with one hit in two at bats.

The Black Sox return to action for a Tuesday, May 26th contest when they cross the St Mary’s River for a 6:00 p.m opening pitch when the Soo face the Sault Junior Varsity Blue Devils.
