Algoma University Varsity Athletics announced Wednesday, June 10th that Shayla Pine has committed to the Thunderbird Women’s Soccer program for the 2021 – 2022 season.
Shayla is from Garden River, Ontario and has played soccer since she was 5 years old. Most recently she has completed playing 3 years with her Superior Heights soccer team where she won the MVP award twice (the second time she won the award she gave it to her teammate who was new to soccer and had a great year).
Shayla will be studying in the four year Social Work program at Algoma U.
Head Coach of Thunderbird Women’s Soccer Neil Ovey says: “We are delighted to be adding another local player to the squad. In Shayla we are recruiting a very determined and driven player who strives for improvement.”
Shayla says “I decided on Algoma because I want to stay home to fully concentrate on my academics, as well as continue my love for soccer at Algoma U. Also for their indigenous perspectives. I can bring a positive attitude, dedication, and leadership to the soccer program as I am a hard worker/player and am fully committed.”
