On day two of the 2021 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection Draft, Sault Ste Marie, Ontario’s Austin Fellinger was selected with the 218 overall selection by his hometown Soo Greyhounds in the eleventh round.
During the 2019 – 2020 season with the Soo U15 Greyhounds, the 5’8″ and 160 lbs blueliner played in 27 regular season games with scoring three goals and contributing on six goals for the U15 Greyhounds in his major bantam season. As a 15 year old, Fellinger added one more assist to his season total in four post season matchups with the Greyhounds. In 2020 – 2021, Fellinger was a member of the Soo U18 Greyhounds under the guidance of coach Jamie Henderson.
“Austin is a really strong skating D man who shows great patience with the puck and is a very reliable defender. He possesses a great stick and anticipates the play so well. He rarely gets caught out of position and he played in every situation for our bantam team. He logged big minutes and played in every crucial situation. Austin has a great attitude and sense of humour too and will be a player his teammates really like,” added Austin’s U15 coach Dom Deluca.
Austin told Saultsports that “I am very excited to play for such an amazing organization. I am a hardworking defenceman, that is able to win battles. I am a great teammate and look forward to building my hockey skills to take me to the next level.”
“Austin is a responsible defender with a great stick who makes a strong first pass. He’s also a great teammate who’s motivated to continue his development. We are thrilled for Austin and his family,” said Fellinger’s coach Jamie Henderson.
