On May 5th, Garden River, Ontario’s Lincoln Moore was selected first overall in the 2022 U18 Ontario Hockey League Selection Draft by the Saginaw Spirit. Two straight U18 OHL Selection Drafts, the Spirit has gone to the Soo U18 Greyhound program with selecting Sault Ste Marie’s Calem Mangone who was selected in 2021 by Saginaw.

As a 17 year old forward with the Soo U18 Greyhounds of the Great North U18 League, the Garden River player scored 18 goals and added 19 assists in the 2021 – 2022 hockey season as well as tallying 18 minutes in penalties. In five postseason games, the 6’1 and 190 lbs forward had three goals and three contributors for the U18 Greyhounds. Lincoln added two goals at the 2022 OHF Championships in Toronto, Ontario in five games for the Soo. In four games in the NOJHL with the Soo Thunderbirds, Moore contributed on two Thunderbird junior ‘A’ goals.

“We’re so proud of Lincoln he had a great summer to get himself ready to dominate this year and he did that. He has really committed himself and there is a lot of work ahead but it’s a special day for him and his family and we couldn’t be happier, said U18 Greyhound coach Jamie Henderson.

From the 2022 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships in Membertou, Nova Scotia, Lincoln Moore told Saultsports that “I would first like to thank everybody that helped me out throughout this journey to get to this point. From my family, coaches, trainers and my teammates I owe it all to them. Being chosen first is just an amazing feeling and especially being drafted to the same team as my former captain Calem Mangone, it’s just so surreal. What I can bring to the team is a reliable 200 foot player who will work in the defensive zone while being able to produce in the offensive zone. I will also bring a scorer’s touch and a creative mind for the game.”
