Colts Push Steelhawks to Game Three with a Win in the 2026 Girls High School City Championships

After the 2026 Sault Ste. Marie Girls’ High School Hockey League City Championship opened with a 4–3 Superior Heights Steelhawks win over the Korah Colts on February 23rd in game one of the best-of-three series resumed on February 25th at the Rankin Arena with game two taking center stage.

The Steelhawks struck first in the opening period when Lillian Rumiel put Superior Heights ahead 1–0 at 11:08, finishing a play set up by Alexe Villebrun. Korah responded later in the frame, as Amy Clement evened the score at 1–1 at 6:26 with an assist from Nikki Steinburg.

The second and third periods remained scoreless despite strong chances at both ends, with Korah goaltender Britton Notte and Superior Heights netminder Kaydence Wardell turning aside every opportunity to force overtime.

In the first overtime period and on a Colts powerplay, Nikki Steinburg ended the game with an unassisted goal to give Korah a 2–1 victory. With the overtime win, the series is now tied and will be decided in a winner-take-all game three on Monday, March 2nd, with a 2:30 p.m. puck drop at the Rankin Arena.

Korah coach Sarah McLeod told Saultsports that “after game one, the team responded with greater tenacity, elevating their compete level and committing to stronger defensive play, tighter gaps, and better support, which limited scoring chances against. They controlled the neutral zone more effectively by disrupting entries and forcing turnovers, while a relentless forecheck created sustained pressure and offensive opportunities.”

“Winning Game Two validated those adjustments and built momentum and confidence, reinforcing belief in their identity and systems. With renewed energy and trust in their game, the team heads into Game Three knowing they can dictate pace, apply pressure, and keep the series alive by playing their brand of hockey,” added McLeod.

Both NOSSA representatives—the Korah Colts and Superior Heights Steelhawks—will also compete in the 2026 NOSSA Girls’ Championships on March 9th and 10th in Sault Ste. Marie at the Northern Community Centre, with the remaining teams from Sudbury and North Bay to be determined.
