Colts and Knights Close Out the 2023 – 2024 High School Regular Season with a Tie

On Monday, February 12th, the Korah Colts and St Mary’s Knights took to the ice to close out the 2023 – 2024 Sault Ste Marie high School Hockey League regular season at the John Rhodes Centre.

At 9:14 of the second period, Knight Jagar Vommaro skates in between the faceoff circles in front of the Colts crease to lift the opening goal over Korah netminder Payton Melchoirre’s left shoulder to give St Mary’s a 1 – 0 lead. Noah DiValentin had the lone assist on Vommaro’s fourth of the season. Nathan Guizietti picks up a turnover in the neutral zone to fire a pass to Dae Wood who sinks his second of the season from the left faceoff circle over Knight goaltender Liam Dubois catcher to pull Korah even 1 – 1 at 6:05 of the second. With the Colts on a powerplay at 8:54 of the third, Koen Manchulenko fires a slapshot from just inside the left blueline to find the back of St Mary’s net for his fifth of the season to give Korah a 2 – 1 lead. Hunter Thorkilson and Ethan Ferguson notched the contributors on Kanchulenko’s powerplay marker. With 4:14 left in the 2023 – 2024 regular high school hockey season, St Mary’s Anthony Blonda crosses the left blueline to sink his fifth of the season unassisted to end the regular season with a 2 – 2 tie.

The Superior Heights Steelhawks and Korah Colts will now play a best of three postseason series that starts on Wednesday, February 14th at the John Rhodes Centre in a 3:30 p.m puck drop.
