The second place (1-0-1) Superior Heights Steelhawks took to the ice at the Soo Peewee Arena on Wednesday, January 15th to face the fourth place (0-3) St Mary’s Knights in Sault Ste Marie Girls High School Hockey action.
In a thrilling display of hockey dominance, the Superior Heights Steelhawks skated to a decisive 7-0 victory over the St. Mary’s Knights. The game showcased stellar performances by key players, with Sophie Chilelli leading the charge.
The scoring opened in the first period with Sophie Chilelli finding the back of the net unassisted. Her goal against Knights goaltender Alex LaPorte gave the Steelhawks a 1-0 lead and marked her second goal of the season.
In the second period, the Steelhawks extended their lead with a strong offensive push. Zara Zavoral struck first, netting her second goal of the season to make it 2-0. Sophie Chilelli followed up with her second goal of the game, further widening the lead to 3-0. Not long after, Alexe Villebrun fired her third goal of the season to increase the Steelhawks’ advantage to 4-0.
Chilelli continued her outstanding performance by completing her first hat trick of the season, giving Superior Heights a commanding 5-0 lead. Villebrun added her second goal of the game, marking the Steelhawks’ sixth tally of the season and solidifying their dominance.
The final period saw Olivia Gordon cap off the scoring for Superior Heights with a single goal, ensuring a 7-0 shutout victory. Goaltender Maika Steinburg was a fortress in net, earning her first shutout of the season and showcasing excellent composure throughout the game.
With this victory, Superior Heights demonstrated exceptional teamwork and individual brilliance. Sophie Chilelli’s hat trick and Maika Steinburg’s flawless goaltending were key highlights in a game that solidified the Steelhawks’ position as a formidable force in the league.

Next action for Sault Ste Marie Girls High School Hockey will be on January 31st when the third place (2-1) Korah Colts head to Thessalon to take on the first place (2-1-1) CASS Huskies in a 7:30 p.m start.
