Day two of the 2026 OFSAA Boys and Girls Soccer Championships saw all three Sault Ste. Marie representatives back in action across Ontario, with the Korah Colts girls continuing their impressive run in Belleville while the St. Mary’s Knights girls and boys battled through challenging competition in Kitchener and Grimsby.
The Korah Colts entered day two of the OFSAA Girls ‘AA’ Championship in Belleville with a perfect 2-0 record following victories over Huntsville and Crescent Prep College on opening day. The Colts continued their strong play Friday morning with a convincing 3-0 win over Mary Ward.
Matalyn Hojem, Amy Clement, and Natashia Drolet each found the back of the net in the victory, while goaltender Molly Gauthier recorded the shutout.
Later in the afternoon, Korah completed a perfect round robin with a 4-2 win over Holy Trinity Titans. Calie Schwarz and Matalyn Hojem each scored twice in the contest. Schwarz netted her second and third goals of the championship, while Hojem added her fourth and fifth tournament goals. Gauthier once again earned the win in goal as the Colts finished pool play with a flawless 4-0 record.
The undefeated run earned Korah first place in Pool A and a quarterfinal matchup against the Lord Dorchester H.S. Beavers, who entered the contest with a 3-1 record and a second-place finish in Pool B.
The Beavers ended the Colts’ championship run with a 5-3 victory in the quarterfinals. Hojem continued her outstanding offensive performance by scoring twice to bring her tournament total to seven goals, while Amy Clement added her third goal of the championship. Molly Gauthier made the start in goal for Korah.
In Kitchener, the St. Mary’s Knights girls competed in the OFSAA ‘AAA’ Girls Championship after opening the tournament with a draw and a loss on day one.
The Knights began Friday with a 2-0 loss to the St. Thomas of Villanova Wildcats before closing out round robin play against the Havergal College Gators. Havergal controlled the match and earned a 4-0 victory over St. Mary’s.
St. Mary’s finished the tournament with a 0-1-3 record after opening day results that included a 6-0 loss to St. Thomas Aquinas and a 1-1 draw against Resurrection Secondary School.
Meanwhile in Grimsby, the St. Mary’s Knights boys looked to rebound after two losses on opening day at the OFSAA ‘AAA’ Boys Championship.
The Knights responded with an impressive 3-0 victory over Mother Teresa in their opening match of day two. The win marked St. Mary’s first victory of the tournament and provided a positive response after losses to Louis-Riel and Father Leo J. Austin on Thursday.
In their final round robin contest, however, the Knights ran into a strong Holy Names CHS squad and suffered a 6-0 defeat.
The boys concluded tournament play with a 1-3 record, while the girls finished with a 0-1-3 mark. Korah’s memorable run ended in the quarterfinals after four consecutive victories to begin the championship, highlighted by seven goals from tournament scoring leader Matalyn Hojem and strong goaltending from Molly Gauthier.
Despite the quarterfinal loss, the Colts represented Sault Ste. Marie with one of the strongest performances of any Northern Ontario team at the 2026 OFSAA Championships, finishing among the province’s top ‘AA’ girls soccer teams.
