Entering the weekend with a win and a tie to open the 2026 Ontario Summer Football League (OSFL) ‘AA’ season, the Sault U16 Sabercats hit the road on Saturday, June 6, for an afternoon showdown against the North Bay Bulldogs.
The Sabercats arrived in North Bay riding the momentum of a dominant 51-7 home victory on May 30, while the Bulldogs were also coming off a strong performance after defeating the Oshawa Hawkeyes 30-6 on May 31 in Oshawa.
With steady rain falling throughout the afternoon, both teams battled through difficult field conditions as they looked to gain an early-season edge in the OSFL standings.
Despite the challenging weather, the Sabercats delivered another impressive performance on both sides of the football, defeating the Bulldogs 31-6 to earn their first road victory of the 2026 campaign and remain unbeaten through three games.
The Sabercats’ defense set the tone from the opening whistle, limiting North Bay’s offensive opportunities while delivering a physical performance throughout the contest. The Sault defense consistently pressured the Bulldogs and controlled the line of scrimmage, helping pave the way for the convincing victory.
Following the game, Sabercats head coach Jim Monico said “our ‘D’ was excellent today , hard hitting and aggressive. On O we struggled to run well but we made some big plays . We’ll have to step it up going forward.”
The victory improves the Sabercats’ record to 2-0-1 on the season and continues what has been an impressive start to the 2026 campaign.
The Sabercats will now return home to Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday, June 13, when they host the Quinte Skyhawks. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
Fans unable to attend the game can catch all the action live on Saultsports TV.
