Coming off with a game one semi – final best of three win over the Korah Colts on Wednesday, February 15th, the Superior Heights Steelhawks hit the ice on Thursday, February 16th at the John Rhodes Centre against the Steelhawks in Sault Ste Marie High School Hocley League action.
Luca Venneri opens the scoring at 7:01 of the first with a goal behind Steelhawk goaltender Tristan Tranberg to give the Colts a 1 – 0 lead. Jack Metcalf drew the lone helper on Venneri’s goal. With 28 seconds remaining in the period, Ronan Provenzano sends Korah into the first intermission up 2 – 0 with an unassisted goal behind Tranberg. 69 seconds into the middle stanza, Superior Heights Connor Ouimette finds the back of Colt netminder Kris Walker to pull Korah within one with Owen Case and Brady DesChene notching the contributor on Ouimette’s goal. With Superior Heights shorthanded, Clark Parker evens the game 1 – 1 for the Steelhawks. Liam Willet registered the assist on Ouimette’s goal. Korah’s Jack Metcalf scores the go-ahead goal for the Colts at the 6:40 mark of the second unassisted. At 5:45 of the period, Brady Deschene nets the tying goal for Superior Heights to tie the game 3 – 3. Ray Rumiel and Connor Ouimette contributed on DesChene’s tying goal. Kaylob Thibodeau sinks the Colts fourth goal of the game to give Korah a 4 – 3 lead at 3:40 of the second with Brady Bayles and Cole Arruda adding the contributors.
Clark Parker ties the game 4 – 4 at 10:44 of the third with the Steelhawks fourth behind Walker. Cameron Hernden drew the helpers on Parker’s second of the game. Ray Rumiel sets up the Steelhawks fifth of the game with Brady DesChene registering his third point of the contest with his second goal at 7:50. At 5:44 of the third, Owen Case give Superior Heights a 6 – 4 game two win to advance to the 2023 Sault Ste Marie High School Hocley League Championship series against the first place St Mary’s Knights to begin on Sunday, February 19th in a 7:00 p.m puck drop at the John Rhodes Centre.
