Black 15U Sox Earn Split in Road Twin Bill Against Older Gaylord Squad

On Monday, June 8th, the Soo 15U Black Sox crossed the border into Michigan for a doubleheader against the Gaylord Baseball Club 17U squad in Gaylord. The twin bill provided the Black Sox with an opportunity to test themselves against older competition on the road.

Gaylord scored five runs in the first inning, which helped them defeat the Soo 8-1 on Monday.

Gaylord Baseball Club got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Jacob Jones doubled, scoring two runs, Max Muldore singled, scoring one run, Adam Woolrey singled, scoring one run, and Trenton Klien drew a walk, scoring one run.

A single by Logan Greenier extended the Gaylord lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the second inning.

Karson Clarke earned the win for Gaylord Baseball Club. The pitcher gave up one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out two and walking four. Damian Beharriell pitched three innings in relief for the Black Sox. The righty surrendered five hits and three runs (two earned) while striking out five and walking five. Ethan Myers took the loss for the Soo. The hurler went one inning, giving up five runs on four hits, striking out two and walking four. Colt Forbes earned the save.

Bryce Perrott led the team with one run batted in. Mitch McLeod led the Black Sox with two hits in two at bats.

Jacob Jones drove the middle of the lineup, leading Gaylord Baseball Club with three runs batted in. The infielder went 3-for-3 on the day. Karson Clarke collected two hits for Gaylord in two at bats. Peyton Basinski led Gaylord Baseball Club with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up nine walks for the game. Max Muldore stole two bases. Gaylord stole 10 bases in the game.

In game two of the doubleheader, the Black Sox hit the diamond looking to split the doubleheader in Gaylord on Monday, June 8th. The Soo beat Gaylord 6-4 on Monday after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at four in the top of the seventh when a wild pitch scored two runs.

The Black Sox got on the board in the top of the first inning after Ethan Myers singled, scoring two runs, and Luke Thorburn grounded out, scoring one run.

Ben Groy singled down the right field line, which helped Gaylord Baseball Club tie the game at three in the bottom of the second.

The Black Sox took the lead in the top of the fifth. Devon Grbich singled, scoring one run, to give the Soo the leg up, 4-3.

The Black Sox committed an error, which helped Gaylord tie the game at four in the bottom of the sixth.

Gavin Bisaillon stepped on the bump first for the Soo. The southpaw surrendered four hits and three runs (two earned) over four innings, striking out three and walking five. Peyton Basinski stepped on the mound first for Gaylord. The righty surrendered four hits and three runs over three and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking two. Devon Grbich appeared in relief for the Black Sox.

Ethan Myers provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Soo with two runs batted in. The left-handed hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Devon Grbich went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Black Sox in hits. Devon Grbich and Freddy Slukynsky each stole multiple bases for the Soo. The Black Sox ran wild on the base paths, amassing six stolen bases for the game. The Soo turned one double play in the game.

Adam Woolrey provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Gaylord Baseball Club with two runs batted in. The number three hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Colt Forbes, Gaylord’s number eight hitter, led the team with two hits in three at-bats. Peyton Basinski stole two bases.

The Black Sox will now head to London, Ontario to take part in the 2026 Bill Sevier Memorial Tournament over the June 12th to 14th weekend where their first opponent will be the Sarnia Brigade Rep 15U on Friday, June 12th in a 8:30 p.m opening pitch.
