Over the Labour Day weekend from September 1st to September 3rd, the Soo 11U Black Sox headed south to Hamilton, Ontario to take part in the 2023 Ontario Baseball Association 11U Championships joined by eleven other 11U baseball programs from around the province of Ontario. The 2023 Ontario Baseball Association 11U Championships hosted by the West Mountain Baseball Association.
Soo 11U Black Sox coach Steve McLeod told Saultsports that “the boys had a high compete level all weekend and proved they would be a difficult opponent for any team. Playing seven games in four days with pitch count restrictions is difficult for any team, but our pitchers were able to manage their pitch control, and our defense was able to help them out. After just five runs in our opening night win Friday, our offense broke loose for 77 runs over their next six games.”
“The players deserve all the credit. They were able to stay calm and execute as each game got bigger. Everyone at the tournament was aware the Mansfield Cubs were undefeated on the season, so I was very proud of the way the boys stayed focused and were able to rebound to beat them twice after losing to them by one run Sunday morning. The provincial title was a great conclusion to a fantastic season,” added McLeod.
