Wolverines Earn First Win of the Season Over Knights

After opening the 2025 Sault Ste. Marie High School Hockey League season with a 5–4 loss in Thessalon, Ontario, to the CASS Huskies on Saturday, November 1st, the (0–1) White Pines Wolverines returned to action Monday, November 3rd, at the John Rhodes Centre to face the (0–1) St. Mary’s Knights, who were coming off a November 2nd loss to the Korah Colts.

In the opening period, the Knights struck first at 8:25 when Hunter Jackson notched his first of the season, assisted by Nathan Watts. The Wolverines responded late in the period at 3:55 when Owen Sanderson scored his first of the year unassisted to even the game 1–1 after twenty minutes.

White Pines carried the momentum into the second period, taking their first lead at 3:56 when Cody Wabigwan recorded his second goal of the season with an assist from Garrin Pine. With just 37 seconds remaining in the frame, Sanderson added his second of the night from Ethan Marsh to extend the Wolverines’ lead to 3–1 heading into the final period.

The third period saw strong goaltending from both sides, with Ben Potter of White Pines and Riley Papi-Grant of St. Mary’s turning away all remaining shots to close out the game.

With the 3–1 victory, the Wolverines even their record at (1–1) and will next hit the ice on Wednesday, November 5th, against the (1–0) Korah Colts at 3:30 p.m. at the John Rhodes Centre. The Knights will look to rebound when they face the (1–0) Superior Heights Steelhawks on Thursday, November 6th, also at 3:30 p.m. at the John Rhodes Centre.
