Varsity Drop a Home Contest to Visiting Panthers in OSFL Action

After not making the trip to Kingston for week five action due to injuries, the varsity Sault Sabercats returned to action at Superior Heights in Ontario Summer Football League action on Saturday, July 9th when they hosted the visiting Cumberland Panthers.

With a 67 yard carry on the second play of the game 27 seconds into the first quarter, Panther Jerry Momo gives Cumberland a 6 – 0 lead. Jayden Bonhomme kicks the convert to give the visitors a 7 – 0 lead. Zai Vaillancourt rushes the ball for 20 yard after catching Panther quarterback Wolfgang Schad 25 yard pass to bring the lead to 13 – 0. Bonhomme adds the extra point with a Cumberland convert at 3:02 of the opening quarter. With sixty seconds left in the half, Sabercat Connor Belleau closes the gap to eight for the Sault with a two yard carry. Daniel Bumbaco finds the uprights for the Sault’s convert. Running the ball for 109 yards for the Panthers was Momo to increase the lead to 21 – 7 after a Jacob Coulombe convert at 8:09 of the third. At 5:32 of the third, Cumberland adds two points to their lead with a conversion. Bonhomme secures a Panther win with a 22 yard major and also adding a convert at 10:10 of the four to give the visitors a 30 – 7 win over the Sabercats.

The varsity Sabercats will now wait to see who they will meet in the first round of the postseason.
