The Soo U18AA Greyhounds are officially heading to the provincial stage after a decisive 5-2 victory over the Copper Cliff Reds in game three of their best-of-three series on Sunday, April 12th in Copper Cliff, Ontario.
The series required intervention from Hockey Canada to determine that a deciding game three would be played, with the winner advancing to represent Northern Ontario at the 2026 U18AA OHF Championships. With the series tied 1-1, everything came down to the final showdown at McClelland Arena.
The Greyhounds rose to the occasion, delivering a strong performance on the road to secure the 5-2 win and punch their ticket to Kitchener. The victory caps off a hard-fought series and sends the Soo into one of the province’s top U18AA showcases.
With the win, the Greyhounds will join a competitive field at the 2026 U18AA OHF Championships, including the Burlington Eagles, Brantford 99er’s, a representative from the GTHL, and the host Kitchener Jr Rangers.
The Greyhounds will open their tournament on April 17th with a 10:00 a.m matchup against Burlington. Later that same day, they’ll return to the ice at 2:30 p.m to face the host Jr. Rangers.
Round robin play continues on April 18th, beginning with a 9:00 a.m game against the GTHL representative, followed by their final preliminary matchup at 4:15 p.m against Brantford.
With momentum on their side and a championship opportunity ahead, the Greyhounds now turn their focus to Kitchener, where they’ll look to make their mark against the province’s best.
