U18 Wolves Roar Early, Roll Past U16 Greyhounds in GNU18HL Midweek Contest in Sudbury

At the Gerry McCrory Countryside Arena on Wednesday, January 14th, the third place (16-6-1-3) Sudbury U18 Wolves continued their strong season as they hosted the ninth place (6-15-0-1) Soo U16 Greyhounds in GNU18HL action. Entering the matchup, the Wolves had won two of the first three meetings during the 2025–2026 campaign, outscoring the Greyhounds 10–3, with the Soo earning their lone victory back on November 19th in Sudbury.

In the first period, Sudbury set the tone early and never looked back. Brett Moxam opened the scoring at 6:28, firing home his 16th goal of the season with helpers from Denver Mulligan and Mekhi Levesque. The Wolves doubled their lead on the powerplay at 11:01, as Levesque notched his 4th of the season, assisted by Khade Metatawabin and Moxam.

The pressure continued at 13:11 when Gillis O’Daiskey made it 3–0, finishing a play set up by Levesque and Janssen Fransen. Following the goal, Soo goaltender Ethan Brewer was replaced by Phoenix Bell. Sudbury capitalized again on the man advantage at 16:06, with O’Daiskey recording his second goal of the game and 15th of the season, assisted by Metatawabin and Moxam. Just 18 seconds later, Jacob Pellerin rounded out the scoring spree, making it 5–0 at 16:24, with assists from O’Daiskey and Metatawabin.

The Greyhounds showed resilience early in the middle frame, getting on the board at 5:29 on the powerplay. Ethan Farquharson buried his 7th of the season, with assists from Logan Watson and David Francella, cutting the deficit to 5–1. Sudbury quickly regained control, as Metatawabin struck at 12:15 for his 5th of the season, assisted by Logan Moran and Brady Carriere. The Wolves closed out the period with another powerplay marker at 13:52, with Harry Yeamans scoring his 2nd of the season, set up by Carriere and Robert Landry, giving Sudbury a commanding 7–1 lead.

Sudbury continued to roll in the final frame. At 16:29, Landen Lake Rego extended the lead to 8–1, finishing off a play from Mulligan and Moxam for his 7th of the season. The Wolves capped off the night at 18:20, as Carter McAllister netted his 2nd of the season, with assists from Carriere and Moran, sealing a 9–1 victory.

The Soo split goaltending duties between Ethan Brewer and Phoenix Bell, while Owen Lamothe was solid between the pipes for Sudbury in the win.

The Soo U16 Greyhounds now turn their attention to the road as they head to Peterborough to compete in the 2026 Steve Richey Tournament, running from January 15th to 18th. The Greyhounds open tournament play at 8:00 p.m on January 15th against the Grey Bruce Highlanders, followed by a 1:15 p.m matchup with the North York Rangers on January 16th. Later that evening, the Soo will face the Niagara North Stars at 8:15 p.m, before wrapping up round-robin action against the Ajax-Pickering Raiders at 1:15 p.m on January 17th.
