U18 Greyhounds Finish Weekend Sweep After a Shootout Win Over the Majors

After opening the November 13 – 14 weekend at home in Sault Ste Marie with a 4 – 2 win on Saturday evening over the visiting Timmins Majors, the Soo U18 Greyhounds took to the ice Sunday morning in game two of the weekend against the Majors in Great North Midget League action.

From in front of the Majors net. Harley Wardell fires the opening goal over Timmins goaltender Thomas Armstrong’s blocker at 2:11 of the second to give the Greyhounds a 1 – 0 lead with Camine Perna and Gabe Zimbaro adding the helpers on Wardell’s goal. From the left blueline, Jordan MacLeod fires a wrist past Soo netminder Charlie Burns to even the game at 17:32 of the third, Raymond Durocher and Travis Poan drew the contributors on McLeod’s tying goal. After five minute overtime three on three extra period, Camine Perna sank the lone shootout goal to give the Greyhounds a 2 – 1 win over the Majors.

Greyhound coach Jamie Henderson told Saultsports that “we give full marks to Timmins today, they came at us hard and played real well. Charlie made some great saves and was the difference today. We played well in spurts but we’re still looking for that next level in our structure and willingness to engage physically.”

The Greyhounds now hit the road a north road trip over the November 19 – 21 weekend with their first stop in New Liskeard against the Cubs on Friday evening in a 8:00 p.m start. Game two will be in Kapuskasing on Saturday in a 7:00 puck drop before rounding out their weekend in Timmins on Sunday morning for a rematch against the Majors at 11:00 a.m.
