On January 11th in less than 24 hours after a tough 5-1 loss to the Soo U18 Greyhounds, the New Liskeard Cubs bounced back in style with a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Soo U16 Greyhounds in GNU16HL action on Saturday evening at the North Community Centre on Saturday, January 12th.

The Cubs came out determined, with forward Jayden Wabie-Delorme opening the scoring in the first period with his ninth goal of the season to give New Liskeard an early 1-0 lead. The Greyhounds responded shortly after, as Finlay Escasa netted his fourth goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1 heading into the first intermission.
Wabie-Delorme struck again early in the second period, scoring his second of the game to restore the Cubs’ lead at 2-1. The Greyhounds continued to battle, with Brett Archambault finding the back of the net for his third goal of the season to level the score at 2-2.

The Cubs leaned on Wabie-Delorme’s offensive prowess as he completed his hat trick later in the period, giving New Liskeard a 3-2 advantage. However, the Greyhounds answered once more early in the third, with defenseman Franke Reda blasting home his second goal of the season to make it 3-3.

In the closing moments, Wabie-Delorme sealed the victory in spectacular fashion, scoring his fourth goal of the game and lifting the Cubs to a 4-3 triumph.

The Cubs’ gritty performance and Wabie-Delorme’s offensive heroics proved decisive in this tightly contested matchup. Despite the loss, the Soo U16 Greyhounds showed resilience, keeping the game close until the final whistle.

Both teams displayed their competitive spirit, making this a memorable game for fans at the John Rhodes Centre. The Cubs now head home with a well-earned victory, while the Greyhounds regroup as they prepare for their next challenge in the season ahead.

On Sunday, January 12th, the Soo U16 Greyhounds hit the ice at the John Rhodes Centre, the North Bay U16 Trappers wrapped up a successful weekend with a commanding 6-2 victory over the Soo U16 Greyhounds on Sunday at the John Rhodes Centre. A balanced offensive attack and strong special-teams play were key to the Trappers’ triumph.

The Trappers set the tone early, with Janssen Fransen opening the scoring in the first period, netting his fourth goal of the season to give North Bay a 1-0 lead. Aiden Duchesne doubled the lead before the intermission, recording his first goal of the season and sending the Greyhounds to the locker room trailing 2-0.

The Soo battled back early in the second period, as Adam Pszeniczny notched his 13th goal of the season to pull the Greyhounds within one at 2-1. However, the Trappers quickly regained control. Ty Dubreuil scored his 12th of the season on the power play, extending the lead to 3-1. Phillippe Lafontaine followed with another power-play goal, his fifth of the season, pushing the Trappers ahead 4-1 by the end of the second period.

North Bay continued to dominate in the third, with Cedar Montreuil scoring his 12th goal of the season to make it 5-1. As the Greyhounds pulled netminder Gavin Zuccato for an extra attacker, Lafontaine found the empty net for his second goal of the game, increasing the Trappers’ lead to 6-1.

Despite the uphill battle, the Greyhounds refused to quit. Adam Pszeniczny tallied his second goal of the game and 14th of the season late in the third period, but the effort wasn’t enough to close the gap as Trapper goaltender Graydon Joseph stood tall between the pipes.

With the win, the Trappers showcased their depth and ability to capitalize on key opportunities. The Soo U16 Greyhounds will look to rebound as they continue their season, but Sunday’s game highlighted the strength of a disciplined and opportunistic North Bay squad.
