Coming off a 5–4 season-opening win on Saturday, November 1st, over the White Pines Wolverines, the CASS Huskies returned to the ice on Sunday, November 2nd, to face the Superior Heights Steelhawks, who were opening their 2025–2026 Sault Ste. Marie High School Hockey League season.

The Steelhawks came out flying in the first period, building a commanding lead. Colton McLean opened the scoring at 14:13 with assists from Thomas Keough and Drew Hankinson. Just over a minute later, Oliver Austin tallied his first of the season at 13:04, assisted by Hankinson and Ayden Hamilton. Cameron Knox extended the Superior Heights lead to 3–0 at 2:23, with helpers from Carter Neabel and Mathieu Trembly.

The Steelhawks continued their offensive surge early in the second period. Ayden Hamilton scored his first of the season at 1:21, assisted by Avery Fowler and Rylan Hudson, before Ty Cond added another just 21 seconds later, with Hankinson and Knox drawing assists.

In the third period, Oliver Austin found the back of the net again at 0:56 for his second of the game, assisted by Fowler and McLean, sealing an impressive shutout victory for Superior Heights.

Riley Orris earned the win in goal for the Steelhawks, while Jack Unetic took the loss for the Huskies.

“Strong start from the first shift. A full team effort with everyone contributing. We’ll be getting used to playing together and this game gave us something to build on,” said Steelhawk coach Jamie Greco.

Huskie coach Spencer Lawrence said “coming off a 5-4 win Saturday night in Thessalon I think tonight’s 6-0 loss was a good learning experience for our group, we have a lot of young guys this year as well as a few returning guys, it’s clear that they are working hard to come together as a team. Despite the score I think our effort level was there tonight. We had some stretches there with good puck movement and a few good chances on the power play. We now know after two games we have to focus on positioning ,communication and consistency. We are confident this group will keep progressing each game and practice.”

The CASS Huskies will be back in action when they host the St. Mary’s Knights in Thessalon on Saturday, November 8th, with a 7:00 p.m. puck drop. The Superior Heights Steelhawks return to play on Wednesday, November 6th, facing St. Mary’s at the John Rhodes Centre at 3:30 p.m.
