Steelhawks Fall to the Knights in High School Hockey Action

At the John Rhodes Centre, the Superior Heights Steelhawks took to the ice to face the St Mary’s Knights in a Sault Ste Marie High School Hockey League contest on Friday, November 18th.

At 13:03 of the opening period, Carmine Perna picks up a rebound off of Steelhawk netminder Tristan Tranberg to give the Knights a 1 – 0 lead. Gabe Zimbaro and Koen Kurylo notched the contributors on Perna’s goal. Nathan Palmer fires a snapshot over Tranberg’s catcher 2:51 into the first to give St Mary’s a 2 – 0 lead with Brayden Luzzi adding the lone helper on Palmer’s goal at the 12:09 mark of the period. With an unassisted goal, fourteen seconds past the halfway mark of the first, Owen Case sinks a wrist shot from the bottom of the right faceoff circle to find the back of Knight goaltender Liam Dubois to pull the Steelhawks within one. With Nik Vecchio in the left corner on Superior Heights goalline, Vecchio bounces a shot off the back of Tranberg’s right leg to bring the Knights lead back to two at 7:59. Kyle Scarfone and Carter Lidstone drew the assists on St Mary’s third.

27 seconds into the middle stanza and on a five on three powerplay, Owen Case rifles snapshot from between the faceoff circles to find the back of Dubois’ net to close gap to one. Connor Ouimette and Tristan Gioia contributed on Case’s powerplay marker. Through a scramble to the right of Tranberg’s net, Darion Pucci slide the Knights’ fourth into the Steelhawks net to bring the lead to 4 – 2 at 12:41. Lucas Green assisted on Pucci’s goal. To the left of Dubois’ net at 7:51 of the second, Matthew Johnson fires a sanpshot into the back of St Mary’s net to bring the Steelhawks within one. Tristan Gioia added the helper on Johnson’s goal. On a St Mary’s powerplay, Knight defenceman Dawson Wilson rifles a snapshot past Tranberg to increase the lead to 5 – 3 at 4:35 of the second. Cole Masse and Carter Listone had the contributors on Wilson’s powerplay goal. With 42 seconds remaining in the second, Lidstone sends the Knights into the intermission up 6 – 3. Vecchio and Masse had the assists on Lidstone’s goal. At 12:15 of the third, Carmine Perna scores his second of the contest to give the Knights a 7 – 3 lead. Kurylo notched the contributor on Perna’s goal. Nik Vecchio secures an 8 – 3 Knights win at 8:32 of the third with Scarfone drawing the assist on Vecchio’s goal.

St Mary’s next opponent will be the Korah Colts on Wednesday, November 23rd at the John Rhodes Centre in a 3;30 p.m puck drop while the Steelhawks face the Colts on Sunday, November 27 at the Memorial Gardens in an 8:00 p.m start.
