St Mary’s Darion Pucci Registers Hat Trick to Help Knights Past the Colts

At the John Rhodes Centre in Sault Ste Marie, the St Mary’s Knights took to the ice to face the short bench of the Korah Colts in Sault Ste Marie High School Hockey League action on Monday, November 14th.

At 4:19 of the opening period, Ronan Provenzano sinks the first goal of the contest after splitting the Knights defense to find the top right corner of St Mary’s goaltender Jaxon Alexander’s net to give Korah a 1 – 0 lead. Ian Hooey added the helper on Provenzano’s goal. 53 seconds into the middle stanza, Darion Pucci picks up his own rebound to slide the tying goal under sprawling Colt netminder Kris Walker to even the game 1 – 1 for the Knights. Nik Vecchio notched the contributor on Pucci’s tying goal. From the left of Walker’s net behind the Korah goalline, Daniel Guzzo catches a pass to the front of the Colt net to sink the go-ahead goal for the Knights at 11:21 of the second. Nathan Palmer had the assist on Guzzo’s goal. 18 seconds before the ten minute mark of the period, Pucci catches a cross ice pass from Lucas Green to fire St Mary’s third goal over Walker’s catcher to give the Knights a 3 – 1 lead. Perna and Lucas Green had the helpers on Pucci’s second goal of the game. Giving the Knights a 4 – 1 lead was Nathan Palmer at 7:30 all alone in front of the Korah net to sink fourth goal over Walker’s fourth. Carter Lidstone and Daniel Bumbaco registered the contributors on Palmer’s goal. 12 seconds later all alone in from of the Colt’s net, Guzzo finds the back of Kris Walker’s net under the Korah’s netminder’s blocker to give the Knights a 5 – 1 lead.

At 3:37 of the period shorthanded and unassisted from the left faceoff circle, Lidstone fires the sixth goal for the Knights to bring the lead to 6 – 1. Scoring his second of the game, Provenzano slides the Colts second of the game under Alexander’s left pad at 2:39. Connor Chow Lin contributed on Provenzano goal. All alone at from the left faceoff circle, Perna rifles a wrist shot past Walker to give St Mary’s a 7 – 3 lead at the 2:09 mark of the second. Koen Kurylo had the lone helper on Perna’s shorthanded goal. With the Colts on a five on three powerplay, Provenzano all alone in front of the Knights’ net, Provenzano registers a hat trick for Korah with nine seconds remaining the period with Jack Metcalf and Hooey. Registering the second hat trick of the game at 4:27 of the third and unassisted, Darion Pucci gives St Mary’s an 8 – 3 win over the Colts to improve to 2 – 0 while the Colts drop to 1 – 2.

The Colts and Knights are back on the ice on Wednesday, November 16th at the John Rhode Centre in a 3:30 p.m high school hockey start.
