Twin Sault Martial Arts Championship in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan at the Norris Centre on LSSU Campus on November 12, 2022, the the Legion Hapkido School competed in its first Martial Arts tournament since Covid 19 and came home big winners.
Many annual tournaments were shut down due to travel restrictions on both sides of the border; and now that some tournaments are coming back the school was excited to finally have a
chance to compete again. For many athletes in the club, this was their first competition; however, they still managed to come home with 15 Gold Medals, 8 Silver Medals and 4 Grand Champion Awards.

-> Steve Jensen, Adult Black Belt Division: 1st in Forms, 1st in Weapons, 2nd in Sparring, 2nd in Self Defense Grand Champion.
-> Kevin Lamour, Adult Black Belt Division: 2nd in Forms, 2nd in Weapons, 1st in Sparring, 1st in Self Defense.
-> Wendy Crysler, Adult Advanced Division: 1st in Forms, 1st in Weapons, 1st in Self-Defence, Grand Champion
-> Arja Crysler 13-14 Year Old Division: 1st Forms, 1st in Sparring, 2nd in Self-Defence, Grand Champion
-> Colton McComb, 11-12 Year Old Division: 2nd in Forms, 1st in Sparring, 1st in Self-Defence
-> Brooke Irwin, 9-10 Year Old Division: 1st in Forms, 2nd in Sparring , 2nd in Self-Defence,
-> Jase Irwin, 7-8 Year Old Division: 1st in Forms, 1st in Sparring, 1st in Self-Defence, Grand Champion
After the competition, Head Coach Rudy Timmerman said: “Now that our school has had a taste of competition, the Legion Hapkido hopes to have more athletes ready to compete in New Year.”
The Club’s next goal is to prepare for the World Karate Championship Qualifier in Spring 2023. The school trains out of Branch 25 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
