Soo U18 Black Sox Round Out 2022 Season with a 1-2 Record at OBA Provincials

Over the August 12 – 14 weekend, the Soo U18 Black Sox took part in the 2022 Ontario Baseball Association Provincial Championships in Brantford, Ontario to close out their 2022 baseball season.

Black Sox 18U stayed in it until the end, but Orillia Royals 18U pulled away late in a 6-4 victory on Saturday. The game was tied at four with Orillia Royals 18U batting in the bottom of the sixth when Whyatt Winkel laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run.

Black Sox 18U got things started in the first inning when Matthew Forsey singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run.
In the bottom of the second inning, Orillia Royals 18U tied things up at four when Andrew Browne grounded out, scoring one run.

Reece Boyle was credited with the victory for Orillia Royals 18U. Boyle went six innings, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out ten. Gabe Rutherford threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Cole Masse took the loss for Black Sox 18U. The righthander lasted four innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out one and walking one.

Forsey started the game for Black Sox 18U. Forsey went two innings, allowing four runs on two hits, striking out one and walking one.

Keyton Mousseau, Wesley Pomeroy, Forsey, and Ty Beaupre each collected one hit to lead Black Sox 18U.
Will Timpano led Orillia Royals 18U with two hits in three at bats.

Black Sox 18U Takes Early Lead In Victory Over Oshawa 18u
Black Sox 18U grabbed an early lead on its way to a 15-4 victory over Oshawa 18u on Friday. Black Sox 18U scored on a double by Matthew Forsey, a triple by Michael Starzomski, an error, a groundout by Michael Biocchi, and a single by Carmine Perna in the first inning.

Black Sox 18U secured the victory thanks to eight runs in the first inning. The offensive onslaught by Black Sox 18U was led by Forsey, Starzomski, Ty Beaupre, Carter Young, Biocchi, and Perna, who each had RBIs in the inning.
Cole Masse was the winning pitcher for Black Sox 18U. The pitcher lasted two innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out three and walking zero. Wesley Pomeroy and Nolan Toni entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Quinn Corbett took the loss for Oshawa 18u. The pitcher surrendered eight runs on four hits over one inning, striking out two.

Black Sox 18U collected ten hits on the day. Forsey, Masse, and Perna all managed multiple hits for Black Sox 18U.

Perna, Masse, and Forsey each collected two hits to lead Black Sox 18U.

Cole Grammatikes went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Oshawa 18u in hits.

Black Sox 18U Loses Lead Early In Defeat
Black Sox 18U fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 10-5 loss to Ancaster 18u on Friday. Ancaster 18u took the lead on an error in the second inning.

In the second inning, Ancaster 18u got their offense started. An error scored one run for Ancaster 18u.

Black Sox 18U scored three runs in the seventh inning. The offensive onslaught came from a single by Nolan Toni, a fielder’s choice by Carmine Perna, and an error on a ball put in play by Michael Starzomski.

Ancaster 18u scored four runs in the fourth inning. Ancaster 18u big bats were led by Nolan Hammond and Ty Mitchell, all driving in runs in the inning.

Nolan Boyle earned the victory on the mound for Ancaster 18u. Boyle surrendered two runs on two hits over two and a third innings, striking out three and walking zero. Adrian Montione threw one and two-thirds innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Owen Daynard took the loss for Black Sox 18U. Daynard lasted four innings, allowing 12 hits and eight runs while striking out five.

Hammond started the game for Ancaster 18u. The pitcher surrendered zero runs on four hits over three innings, striking out one and walking one.

Black Sox 18U had nine hits in the game. Cole Masse and Toni all collected multiple hits for Black Sox 18U. Toni and Masse each managed two hits to lead Black Sox 18U.

Ancaster 18u totaled 13 hits. Hammond and Matt Moon all had multiple hits for Ancaster 18u. Hammond went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Ancaster 18u in hits. Ancaster 18u stole nine bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Moon led the way with two.
