Over the September 3 – 5 weekend, the Soo Black Sox U15 hit the road for their final time in the 2021 baseball season with taking part in the 2021 Provincial OBA Championships in Oakville, Ontario. The Sox were joined by the Mississauga North Tigers, Clarington Orioles, and host Oakville A’s.
Game 1
Black Sox 15U Claims Lead In Sixth Inning to Defeat Mississauga North 6-3
In our first game Friday night, we played the Mississauga North Tigers. It was an exciting game where the Tigers took the lead in the third only for the Black Sox to come back and score three in the bottom of the 4th. It remained close until the sixth.
The Black Sox 15U stole the lead late in the game in a 6-3 victory over Mississauga North on Friday. The game was tied at three with Black Sox 15U batting in the bottom of the sixth when Kolton Tremblay doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring Michael Biocchi who had led the inning off with a double. Keyton Mousseau then laid down a perfect sac bunt to move Kolton Tremblay to third base who then scored on Carter Young’s single to RF. Nick Dearing followed that single with one of his own to score Caleb Walker to give the Black Sox 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th and the eventual win.
Steven Day-Nolan earned the victory on the pitcher’s mound for Black Sox 15U. The right-hander surrendered zero runs on zero hits over two-thirds of an inning, walking one. Jace Hill threw two and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Omar led things off on the mound for Mississauga North. Omar allowed five hits and five runs over five innings, striking out five and walking one. Taylor and Jaden entered the game as relief, throwing two-thirds of an inning and one-third of an inning respectively.
Lucas Carriere started the game for Black Sox 15U. The pitcher went three innings, allowing two runs on three hits, striking out two and walking one.
Black Sox 15U totaled eight hits in the game. Michael Biocchi and Keyton Mousseau all had multiple hits for Black Sox 15U. Mousseau and Biocchi each managed two hits to lead Black Sox 15U.
Jora went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Mississauga North in hits.
Game 2
Tight Game between Oakville and Black Sox 15U Ends In a 4-4 Tie
The Black Sox 15u had three games to play on Saturday which started at 10:30am against the Oakville A’s.
Oakville took the early lead by scoring 2 in the bottom of the 1st. Oakville opened up the scoring in the first inning. An error scored one run for Oakville. The Black Sox scored one in the third and one in the fifth to tie the game up at two.
The Sox eventually took the lead in the 6th when they scored two including a steal of home by Keyton Mousseau who had walked earlier in the inning and proceeded to steal 2nd and 3rd before stealing home. “When I saw Keyton running down the third base line as the pitcher was in his wind-up, I honestly wasn’t sure if he was going to make it but he slid under the tag and we got to see one of the most exciting plays in baseball, a straight steal of home!” Said Head Coach Shaun Mousseau. “All of the credit on that play goes to our 3rd base coach, Jordan Trudeau and our base runner, Keyton Mousseau for picking up the slow delivery on the pitcher and deciding to steal home,” added coach Mousseau. This game had a little bit of everything. “Not only did we complete the straight steal of home but we also managed to get a player out on third with the hidden ball trick. Our players were on their toes in this game and really wanted to get the W.” concluded Coach Mousseau. Credit goes to 3rd baseman Caleb Walker who had the ball in his glove and casually walked over to third and applied the tag on the napping A’s player who was standing off the bag for the out.
Nick Dearing, Kolton Tremblay, Logan Dearing, Michael Biocchi, and Lucas DiBerardino each managed one hit to lead Black Sox 15U. Keyton Mousseau led Black Sox 15U with three stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with nine stolen bases.
Jack Herbert went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Oakville in hits. Oakville stole nine bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Herbert led the way with two.
Game 3
Black Sox 15U lost the lead late in an 8-5 defeat to Clarington on Saturday
Our second game on Saturday saw us play the Clarington Orioles in the first of two games.
Clarington opened up an early lead in the second inning when Coombs doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.
After Clarington scored one run in the top of the fourth, Black Sox 15U answered with one of their own. Clarington scored when Palmieri singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Black Sox 15U tied things up at four. Kolton Tremblay grounded out, scoring one run.
In the top of the sixth Evans grounded out, scoring one run.
McKittrick led the Clarington to victory on the mound. The hurler allowed zero hits and three runs over four innings, striking out three.
Keyton Mousseau started the game for Black Sox 15U. The pitcher went five innings, allowing four runs on nine hits and striking out four.
Ayres started the game for Clarington. The bulldog allowed three hits and two runs over three innings
Caleb Walker took the loss for Black Sox 15U. Walker allowed four hits and four runs over two innings, striking out one.
Tremblay, Mousseau, and Lucas DiBerardino each collected one hit to lead Black Sox 15U. Mousseau had two walks in the game and RBI’s went to Mousseau, Walker, and DiBerardino.
Clarington tallied 13 hits in the game. Palmieri, Gerrow, Ayres, and McKittrick each had multiple hits for Clarington. Palmieri led Clarington with three hits in four at bats.
Game 4
Our third game on Saturday saw us battle the Clarington Orioles again only to lose 7-5.
Black Sox 15U fell behind early and couldn’t come back in a 7-5 loss to Clarington on Saturday. Clarington scored on a double by Coombs in the first inning.
Black Sox 15U lost despite out-hitting Clarington ten to six.
In the first inning, Clarington got their offense started when.
Storey was on the pitcher’s mound for Clarington. The bulldog surrendered four runs on seven hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out six.
Logan Dearing was on the hill for Black Sox 15U. The righthander surrendered five runs on four hits over two innings, striking out three. Wes White threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Black Sox 15U racked up ten hits. White and Kolton Tremblay each racked up multiple hits for Black Sox 15U. Keyton Mousseau, Tremblay and White each collected two hits to lead Black Sox 15U.
Lucas Carriere had two walks and three stolen bases. Black Sox 15U didn’t commit a single error in the field. Nick Dearing had the most chances in the field with seven.
Storey went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Clarington in hits. Clarington stole seven bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Storey led the way with two. Clarington was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Clayton had the most chances in the field with six.
“We gave it everything we had in the third game but the heat and this being our third game of the day, just did us in.” said Head Coach Shaun Mousseau. “Kudos to the players! There was no quit in their game today. They left it all on the field.”
Game 5
Oakville Captures Lead Early To Defeat Black Sox 15U 7-5
Sunday Morning saw us back at the field playing the Oakville A’s again.
Black Sox 15U watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 7-5 loss to Oakville on Sunday. Oakville scored on a groundout by Connor Mason in the first inning and a walk by Nate Oussoren in the second inning.
In the bottom of the first inning, Black Sox 15U tied things up at one. Black Sox 15U scored one run when Nick Dearing doubled.
After Oakville scored two runs in the top of the sixth, Black Sox 15U answered with two of their own. Oakville scored when an error scored two runs for Oakville. Black Sox 15U then answered when Jace Hill grounded out, scoring one run and Lucas DiBerardino doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.
Oakville pulled away for good with one run in the second inning. In the second Oussoren drew a walk, scoring one run.
Charlie was on the mound for Oakville. The hurler surrendered two runs on two hits over three innings, striking out one.
Hill was on the pitcher’s mound for Black Sox 15U. The right-hander lasted five innings, allowing six hits and five runs while striking out four. Steven Day-Nolan threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Wes White led Black Sox 15U with two hits and two RBI’s in three at bats. Keyton Mousseau led the team with two walks and Lucas Carriere led Black Sox 15U with three stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with 11 stolen bases.
Oakville racked up seven hits in the game. Jack Herbert and Kabir Bedi all had multiple hits for Oakville. Oakville was sure-handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Aaron Johal had the most chances in the field with five. Oakville stole 11 bases during the game as three players stole more than one. Herbert led the way with two.
