On Thursday, February 11th, Soo Greyhound defenseman Robert Calisti signed with the Ottawa Senators affiliate, the Amercian Hockey League’s Belleville Senators. Calisti joins the Senators after two full successful seasons with the Ontario Hockey League Soo Greyhounds and one season in the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League with the Soo Thunderbirds.
The 20 year old Toronto, Ontario native appeared in 129 regular season games in Sault Ste Marie from 2018 – 2020 with the Greyhounds where the 5’10” and 180 lbs blueliner scored 20 goals and had 37 assists. In his first season with the Soo, Calisti had 14 minutes in penalties and in his second season, the defenseman tallied 64 penalty minutes. In 2017 – 2018, the Toronto, Ontario blueliner scored six goals and added 14 contributors in 33 regular season games with the Thunderbirds. Calisti also registered two goals and eight helpers in 13 post season appearances in a Soo Thunderbird jersey.
Robert was drafted in the third round of the OHL Priority Selection with the 44th overall selection in 2017. In the shortened seaon in 2019 – 2020, Calisti had his most successful season in the OHL with 50 points. The Toronto, Ontario’s defenseman 50 points placed the 19 year old sixth in the league among defensemen.
