Soo Black 18U Sox Lead Slips in the Sixth Against the EUP Woodducks

The Soo Black Sox 18U stayed in it until the end, but EUP Woodducks pulled away late in a 12-11 victory on Tuesday, June 25th in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan. EUP Woodducks were down 11-10 in the bottom of the sixth inning when T Lynn singled, scoring two runs.

The Soo fell despite leading 11-4 in the fifth.

EUP Woodducks opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to two singles. EUP Woodducks first got on the board when M Bontrager singled, scoring one run.

EUP Woodducks added two runs in the second after Wilson doubled.

The Black Sox took the lead, 5-4, in the top of the third thanks to singles by Cole Masse, Caleb Walker, and Hunter Thorkilson.

EUP Woodducks flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the sixth, scoring six runs on four hits to take a 12-11 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Wilson that drove in two.

#10 earned the win for EUP Woodducks. They gave up three hits and two runs over three innings, striking out one and walking three. Michael Hapanovich took the loss for the Soo. The reliever went two and one-third innings, giving up six runs (one earned) on six hits, striking out none and walking none. Masse stepped on the bump first for the Black Sox. The starting pitcher gave up seven hits and four runs (two earned) over three innings, striking out four and walking none. Bontrager stepped on the hill first for EUP Woodducks. The starting pitcher allowed two hits and one run over two innings, striking out two and walking one.

The Soo collected 11 hits in the game. Masse, Carter Young, and Zach Allard each collected two hits for the Black Sox. Young, Walker, Thorkilson, and Hapanovich each drove in two runs for the Soo. Nolan Toni led the Black Sox with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, amassing nine walks for the game. The Soo turned one double play in the game.

EUP Woodducks piled up 15 hits in the game. Lynn and Wilson each collected three hits for EUP Woodducks. Lynn went 3-for-4 at the plate as they led the team with four runs batted in. M Lumsden collected two hits for EUP Woodducks in four at bats. EUP Woodducks turned one double play in the game.

Next up for the Black Sox is a doubleheader against Northern Michigan Patriots on Wednesday, June 26th in Charlevoix, Michigan.
