In Sault Ste Marie, Ontario on Tuesday, July 18th, the Soo 18U Black Sox hosted the Gaylord Baseball Club in the Black Sox first home games of 2023. Doubleheaders always stand out as an action-packed event with these twin-bill games bringing together young athletes and excited fans to watch their hometown players hit the diamond.
In the second game of the doubleheader on Tuesday, the Soo Black Sox 18U lost to Gaylord Baseball Club 4-3 on Tuesday at IDA Park.
A single by Sirecely put Gaylord Baseball Club on the board in the top of the first.
A sacrifice fly by Sirecely extended the Gaylord Baseball Club lead to 2-0 in the top of the third inning.
Jason Kihn earned the win for Gaylord Baseball Club. The righty gave up one hit and two runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking three. Kolton Tremblay took the loss for Soo Black Sox 18U. They went three innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits, striking out three and walking three. Lamento opened the game for Gaylord Baseball Club. The starting pitcher allowed zero hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out four and walking none.
Michael Hapanovich, Jace Hill-Pine, and Keyton Mousseau each collected one hit for Soo Black Sox 18U. Hill-Pine, Mousseau, and Colin Sirois each drove in one run for Soo Black Sox 18U. Soo Black Sox 18U turned one double play in the game.
R Russo led Gaylord Baseball Club with two hits in three at bats. Sirecely provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Gaylord Baseball Club with two runs batted in. They went 1-for-2 on the day.
In game one of the doubleheader, the Soo Black Sox 18U outsted Gaylord Baseball Club 6-2 on Tuesday in Sault Ste Marie. The Soo Black Sox 18U got on the board in the first inning after Caleb Walker singled, scoring two runs.
A ground out by Cole Masse extended the Soo Black Sox 18U lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning.
Gaylord Baseball Club scored two runs in the top of the fourth on a home run to center field by Russo on an 0-2 count.
Masse earned the win for Soo Black Sox 18U. The starting pitcher allowed two hits and two runs over five innings, striking out six and walking one. Colin Basinski took the loss for Gaylord Baseball Club. They went three innings, allowing one run on three hits, striking out three and walking two. C Patton started on the bump for Gaylord Baseball Club. They surrendered four hits and five runs (four earned) over three innings, striking out two and walking four. Michael Hapanovich and Gavin Lamming each came on in relief for Soo Black Sox 18U and shutdown Gaylord Baseball Club.
Walker drove the middle of the lineup, leading Soo Black Sox 18U with two runs batted in. The left-handed hitter went 2-for-2 on the day. Walker, Carter Young, and Kolton Tremblay each collected two hits for Soo Black Sox 18U. Soo Black Sox 18U had patience at the plate, amassing six walks for the game.
