Soo 18U Black Sox Hold on to their Leads to Win in the Doubleheader Over Patriots

On Wednesday, June 26th, the Soo 18U Black Sox hosted the Northern Michigan Patriots at IDA Park in a doubleheader.

The Black Sox got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after the Patriots committed an error, and Keyton Mousseau stole home, each scoring one run.

Northern Michigan made the score 4-2 in the top of the second after Carpenter Hoover doubled, scoring two runs, Parker Hoover singled, scoring one run, and one run scored on another play.

The Soo made the score 6-4 in the bottom of the fourth after an error scored one run, James Charboneau induced Thomas Keough to hit into a fielder’s choice, but one run scored, and Zach Allard singled, scoring two runs.

Kolton Tremblay earned the win for the Black Sox. The starting pitcher surrendered three hits and four runs (zero earned) over four innings, striking out five and walking one. Charboneau took the loss for the Patriots. The starting pitcher went three and two-thirds innings, surrendering six runs (one earned) on six hits, striking out two and walking one. Lamming collected the save.

Allard led the Soo with two runs batted in. The catcher went 1-for-3 on the day. Lucas Carriere went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Soo Black Sox 18U in hits.

Hoover, the number seven hitter for Northern Michigan, led the way with two runs batted in. They went 1-for-3 on the day. Hoover, Hoover, Will Paulus, and Andru Vernale each collected one hit for the Patriots. Northern Michigan turned one double play in the game.

In game two of the doubleheader on Wednesday, the Black Sox Survive the Patriots.

The Black Sox got out to a 7-run lead in the second inning and held on for an 8-6 victory over Northern Michigan on Wednesday. The Patriots closed the gap by scoring on an error, a double, a ground out, a single, a double, and an error.

The Soo were the first to get on the board in the first when Carter Young singled, scoring one run.

The Black Sox added to their early lead in the bottom of the second inning after Lucas Carriere singled, Kolton Tremblay singled, Cole Masse walked, Keyton Mousseau grounded out, Young singled, and Chase Cerasuolo grounded out, each scoring one run.

Carriere earned the win for the Soo. They surrendered four hits and four runs (one earned) over three innings, striking out four and walking none. Derk Boerman took the loss for Northern Michigan . The right-handed pitcher went one and two-thirds innings, allowing seven runs (three earned) on five hits, striking out two and walking four. Masse collected the save. Nolan Toni appeared in relief for the Soo.

Young provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Black Sox with two runs batted in. The left fielder went 2-for-3 on the day. Tremblay and Young each collected two hits for the Soo. Masse led the Black Sox with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying 11 walks for the game. Masse stole two bases.

Jake Jankoviak provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the Patriots (Over 18)) with two runs batted in. The first baseman went 2-for-4 on the day.

Next up for the Black Sox 18U is a game at Manitowoc Bandits on Friday, June 28th.
