Soo 18U Black Sox Fall in Doubleheader in Cheboygan to the Chiefs

On Tuesday, May 28th, the Soo Black Sox 18U could not keep pace in game one 6 – 3 loss of a doubleheader in Cheboygan, Michigan against the Cheboygan High School Chiefs.

A single by Carter Young on a full count put the Soo on the board in the top of the first. Munger walked, which helped the Chiefs tie the game at one in the bottom of the first. A single by Blockski gave Cheboygan the lead, 2 – 1 in the bottom of the third.

Bahzovic earned the win for the Chiefs. The starter pitcher gave up four hits and one run over the five innings, striking out seven and walking one. Thomas Keough took the loss for the Black Sox. The left-handed pitcher went one inning, surrendering four runs on four hits, striking out none and walking two. Lucas Carriere led things off on the bump for the Soo. The starting pitcher gave up three hits and two runs (zero earned) over three innings, striking out five and walking two.

Young led the Black Sox with one run batted in. The number three hitter went 1-for-4 on the day. The Soo’s Zach Allard made the most of their chances at the plate. The number eight hitter led the team with three hits in three at bats. Allard stole two bases in the loss. Bradley and Bahzovic were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Cheboygan while hitting back-to-back. Munger, Schley, Blockski, and Bradley each drove in one run for the Chiefs.

Cheboygan scored eight runs in the second inning, which helped them defeat Soo Black Sox 18U 15-0 on Tuesday evening in game two of the doubleheader on the road in Michigan.

Cheboygan got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Schley walked, the Chiefs scored on a passed ball, Chase Swanson walked, Faiver walked, and Cheboygan scored on a wild pitch, each scoring one run.

Cheboygan scored eight runs on two hits in the bottom of the second inning. Schley hit a sacrifice fly, scoring two runs, an error scored one run, Faiver singled, scoring one run, Bradley doubled, scoring two runs, Munger drew a walk, scoring one run, and a passed ball scored one run.

The Chiefs added two runs in the third after Faiver doubled.

Charboreau earned the win for Cheboygan. The starting pitcher gave up zero hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out six and walking none. Hunter Thorkilson took the loss for Soo Black Sox 18U. The righty went one inning, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on zero hits, striking out three and walking eight.

Faiver, the number eight hitter for the Chiefs led the way with three runs batted in. The infielder went 2-for-2 on the day. Munger led Cheboygan with three walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating 11 walks for the game.

Next up for Soo Black Sox 18U will be a doubleheader against Sudbury Shamrocks 18u on Saturday, June 1st in Sudbury, Ontario with game times of 12:00 p.m and 2:30 p.m.
