Soo 13U Selects Loss in Sixth Inning Comeback by Soo Michigan Sluggers in 2024 Season Debut

The Soo Selects 13U fell in their season debut 10-5 to the Soo Michigan Sluggers on Sunday, June 23rd . The Soo Selects led the game 4-1 until the Michigan Sluggers manufactured a sixth inning comeback.

The Selects were led by starting pitcher Gregory Beckerson, who registered 3 innings of scoreless pitching, striking out 7 batters with zero walks. Left-handed pitcher Brayden Boulrice also threw two strong innings in the match.

Outfielder Presley Rome added two hits for the Selects, including a bunt single, while third baseman Ethan Pawelek reached base in all three of his at bats.

“Against a competitive team, we played very well,” said Soo Selects coach Jordan Trudeau. “It’s a fun group of players, and I’m looking forward to seeing them improve and find success.”

“We played extremely well against a talented team,” added coach Brandon Dewar. “Our talent was on display today and I think we can make some noise this season.”

Dewar and Trudeau are former Soo Black Sox teammates. Pat Henderson, the 13U Selects head coach, previously coached both Dewar and Trudeau in the Black Sox program from 2011-2016.

Henderson has made his return behind the bench alongside pitching coach Tyler Binkley. Binkley is one of only three local Soo players to ever get drafted to the MLB, taken by the New York Mets in 2006.

The next action for the Soo Selects 13U will be at Sinclair Yards, Friday, July 5th , where they will face off in the Soo Minor 16U mid-season tournament.
