Sharks Win Track 2022 HSCDSB Elementary Track and Field Title

The St. Mary’s French Immersion Sharks captured the 2022 HSCDSB Elementary track and field title on Tuesday, June 14th at the Jo Forman Track in Sault Ste. Marie. Strong showings in the Bantam Divisions powered St. Mary’s to the team title ahead of Holy Cross and Our Lady of Lourdes.

In Bantam girls’, Sophia Fata captured three events, the 100 and 200 metres and running long jump, to lead the Sharks attack. Fata’s 200 metres victory in 28.28 seconds set a new board record. Last week, in the East Zone
meet, she set a new standard in the 100 metres with a run of 12.50 seconds.

In Bantam boys, St. Mary’s French Immersion won six of the eight events. Hunter Jackson won the 100 metres while David Carmichael won the 800 metres. Both were part of the 400 metres relay winning foursome.

In Pee Wee boys, another record was set thanks to Brock Chitaroni of St. Mary’s French Immersion. He won the 400 metres in 1:00.09 seconds. Cole Giuzzetti from St. Francis French Immersion won three events, the 100, 200 metres and running long jump. Adam Pszeniczny from St. Paul was also a triple winner. He won the 800 metres, softball throw and was part of the 400 metres relay winning foursome.

On the girls’ side, Teija Lappalainen from St. Paul won three events, the 100, 200 metres and she was a member
of the winning 400 metres relay team.

Top performer in Atom Boys was Jayden Craften from Our Lady of Fatima in Elliot Lake. He won the 200 metres and running long jump. On the girls’ side, Nyla Valente-Boateng from St. Mary’s French Immersion won the 50 metres sprint and running long jump.

In Novice, Robert Devito and Rafael Fata from St. Mary’s French Immersion both won two events. Devito claiming the 50 metres and standing long jump and Fata the 100 metres and running long jump.
