Student-athletes from across Sault Ste. Marie high schools gathered at the Jo Forman Track on Wednesday, May 20th and Thursday, May 21st for the 2026 High School City Track and Field Championships, showcasing speed, strength, endurance and determination over two days of competition. Athletes from local schools took part in a full schedule of track and field events as competitors battled for top finishes and opportunities to advance to the next stage of competition. The annual city championship once again brought together some of the area’s top young athletes in one of the largest school sporting events of the spring season. Track meets at Jo Forman traditionally feature sprinting, distance races, relays and field events including long jump, high jump, shot put, discus and javelin.
The atmosphere throughout the championships was filled with energy as teammates cheered one another on from the sidelines while schools proudly represented their colours. Whether crossing the finish line in dramatic fashion, clearing a personal-best height or delivering a strong throw in the field events, athletes spent two days competing at a high level and demonstrating months of hard work and preparation. The city championships continue to be one of the highlights of the high school athletic calendar, giving students an opportunity to test themselves against some of the best competition in the region.
Beyond medals and podium finishes, the event highlighted sportsmanship and school pride as athletes pushed each other to new performances throughout the meet. Coaches, volunteers, officials and supporters all played a role in making the championships a success while helping create an environment that celebrated participation and competition. As the two-day event concluded at Jo Forman Track, many athletes now turn their focus toward the next stage of competition with hopes of continuing their season and representing their schools on a larger stage.

Athletes who qualified at Thursday’s City Track and Field Championships will now compete at NOSSA, scheduled for May 27-28 in Sudbury.
