Second Straight 2021 Exhibition Loss for the Greyhounds to the Wolves

After an 8 – 4 loss to the Sudbury Wolves on September 5th to open the 2021 exhibition season for the Soo Greyhounds in Sault Ste Marie, the Wolves were back in town for a Saturday, September 25th exhibition matchup with the hometown Greyhounds.

Sixty-one seconds in the middle stanza, Greyhound veteran Kalvyn Watson picks up a bouncing puck off the back glass from a Robert Calisti shot to slide the Soo’s lone goal of the contest under Sudbury goaltender Mitchell Weeks. Joe Carroll had the other assist on Watson’s goal. At 8:26 of the second, Alex Assadourain picks up a rebound of Greyhound netminder Charlie Schenkel’s right pad to even the game 1 – 1 for the Wolves. Landon McCallum and Ryan Smith drew the helpers on Assadourain power play goal. Fifty – eight seconds in the final period, Quentin Musty fires a wrist shot from the left faceoff circle over Schenkel’s catcher to give Sudbury a 2 – 1 lead. McCallum had the lone assist on Musty’s go-ahead goal.

From the right faceoff circle, Cole Crowder scores the visitors third of the game to increase the lead to 3 – 1 for the Wolves at 4:46. Ethan Larmand added the contributor on Crowder’s goal. Twenty seconds before the halfway mark past the third, Assadourain founds the back of Schenkel’s net through traffic for his second of the game to bring the lead to 4 – 1 at 9:40. Kocha Delic and Payton Robinson notched the helpers on Assadourain power play goal. With fluttering shot from inside the left blueline, Joshua Hoover secures the Wolves win with their fifth of the game with 2:38 remaining in Saturday’s contest in Sault Ste Marie. Delic registered the lone assist on Hoover’s goal.

Sudbury goaltender Mitchell Weeks stopped 43 of 44 shots in the Wolves second straight win over the Soo while Greyhound netminders Sam Ivanov and Charlie Schenkel shared the duties between the pipes with Ivanov turning away 14 of 14 along with Schenkel making 16 saves in the 5 – 1 loss to the visiting Wolves.

The Greyhounds will round out their exhibition season with a stop in Sudbury on October 1st against the Wolves in a 7:05 p.m puck drop.
