Scarfone Registers Three Points in Knights Win Over Steelhawks

At the John Rhodes Centre on Wednesday, March 2nd, the St Mary’s Knights hit the ice to face the Superior Heights Steelhawks in a Sault Ste Marie High School Hockey League midweek clash.

Caden MacInnes fires the opening goal from just inside the left blueline to find the back of Steelhawk netminder Tyler Greco’s net to give the Knights a 1 – 0 lead. Nick Vecchio and Michael Starzomski add the helpers on MacInnes’ goal 73 seconds into the first. Daniel Bumbaco fires a snapshot from the left faceoff circle at 12:43 to sink St Mary’s second with Noah Delorenzi drawing the assists on Bumbaco’s goal. Kyler Brown catches a cross ice pass from Tristan Gioia to score Superior Heights first over Knights goaltender Jaxon Alexander’s blocker to pull the Steelhawks within one at 11:20. Nathan Palmer banks the Knights third from behind Superior Heights’ net off of Greco’s left skate to bring the lead to 3 – 1 for St Mary’s at 2:14 of the first. Starzomski contributed on Palmer’s goal. Christian Omollo rifles the Knights fourth from the right faceoff circle over Greco’s right shoulder to increase the lead to 4 – 1 at the 9:15 mark of the second with Starzomski setting up Omollo’s shorthanded goal.

With 26 seconds remaining in the period, Darion Perrault sends St Mary’s into the second intermission up 5 – 1 with finding the back of the Steelhawks net through a scrum in Greco’s crease. Kyle Scarfone and Vecchio registered the assists on Perrault’s goal. With a scramble in front of Superior Heights’ net 19 seconds past the midway mark of the third, Scarfone gives the Knights a 6 – 1 lead with Perrault notching the helper on St Mary’s goal. Finding the bottom left corner of Superior Heights net, Scarfone sinks an unassisted goal at 6:39 to give the Knights a 7 – 1 lead. Johnny Ivic skates across the Knights to rifle a slapshot over Alexander’s right shoulder to close the gap to five for the Steelhawks at 6:01. With 3:30 left in the midweek clash with Superior Heights Bumbaco picks up a Nick Kelly rebound to give the Knights an 8 – 2 win over the Steelhawks. Cole Masse had the other assist on Bumbaco’s second goal of the game.

The Steelhawks will now face the Korah Colts on March 6th in an 8:00 p.m faceoff at the Memorial Gardens while the Knights meet the Colts on March 7th at the John Rhodes Centre in a 3:30 p.m puck drop.
