As the Sault U16 Sabercats head into week eight of the Ontario Summer Football League (OSFL) season on Saturday, July 6th in Peterborough, the Sabercats are gearing up for an important matchup following a hard-fought 21 – 10 loss at home on June 29th in week seven to the Quinte Skyhawks. Despite the disappointment of that defeat, our spirits are high as we prepare to hit the road and face off against Wolverines Saturday afternoon.
Last week’s game was a tough pill to swallow. The atmosphere was electric, their fans were roaring, but we fell short in the closing minutes.
However, their coaching staff and players have shown incredible resilience all season long.
The loss has only fueled our determination to come back stronger. This week’s practices have been intense, with a renewed emphasis on execution and discipline. Their offense is fine-tuning its plays, looking to strike early and often. Defensively, they are tightening up coverage and sharpening our tackling. Special teams are also putting in extra work to ensure we control field position.
Saturday promises to be another thrilling chapter in their season. They are not just looking to win; we’re looking to make a statement. The loss at home was a setback, but it’s not defining them.
Their fans have been incredible all season long, and they know they’ll be out in full force again, cheering the Sabercats on every step of the way. Their support fuels the fire, and they are determined to give them a performance they won’t forget.
Coach Will Basawa told Saultsports that “the team’s performance in an overall sense has been up and down. The games we have lost have been a direct result of a lack of mental toughness. When you play against a high level of competition, you simply cannot have that. We will rebound how we always do by having a short memory.”
Kickoff is at 4:00 p.m, against the Wolverines in Peterborough on Saturday, July 6th.
