Sault Surge Shines at 2022 Border City Invitational in Windsor

Over the Friday, December 2 – Sunday, December 4 weekend, 19 swimmers from Sault Surge Aquatic Team attended the 2022 Border City Invitational meet in Windsor. Swimmers set almost 100% personal best times, some swimmers qualifying for a total of 18 final events with each race getting better results!

In the 17 year old and over age group Kaelyn Albert impressively took home a total of seven medals, 1st in 50-metre freestyle (28.45), 2nd in 100-metre fly (1:06.93), 200-metre fly (2:28.26), as well as 100-metre breaststroke (1:14.22) and 3rd in 50-metre fly (30.13), 50-metre breaststroke (34.40) and 200-metre breaststroke (2:40.78). WILL BANTON placed 2 nd in 200-metre freestyle (1:57.81) as did Cam Hutton with 2nd in the 50-metre fly (27.09). Brie Reid achieved two 1st place finishes in the 13 year old age group for 50-metre breaststroke (36.41) and 100-metre breaststroke (1:20.69).

The junior swimmers also had a very successful meet! In the Boys 12 year old events, Oliver Bennetto placed 2nd in the 50-metre fly (38.61) and 3rd in the 200-metre backstroke (2:50.79) as well as 100-metre freestyle (1:09.99). David Lloyd placed 3rd in the Boys 11 year old 200-metre freestyle (2:59.82) and 50-metre fly (43.95).

The swimmers hard work, dedication and perseverance is second to none.

Sault Surge would also like to recognize the following swimmers who set qualifying times for the Ontario Youth Junior Championship in February 2023!

Congratulations to:

  • Will Banton: Men Age 17-18 50-metre, 100-metre and 200-metre freestyle
  • Cam Hutton: Men Age 17-18 over 100-metre fly
  • Andrew Li: Men 13 and under 50-metre, 100-metre and 200-metre freestyle, 100-metre backstroke, 200m Individual Medley
  • Brie Reid: Women 13 and under 100-metre breaststroke

Kaelyn Albert has qualified for the Winter Ontario Swim Championships in March 2023 for Women Age 17-18 100-metre and 200-metre breaststroke

Coach Nancy Day and Emma Broadbent are pleased with the results of each and every swimmer. The swimmers had a fantastic time with excellent results, improving on their personal times and challenging themselves in the pool.
