Sault Ste Marie’s Jack Matier Named Sportsperson of the Year at 2023 Rotary Awards

At the Machine Shop in Sault Ste Marie on Thursday, June 15th local high school student athletes gathered for the 2023 Rotary Awards.

High school sports are not just about competition; they are a platform for young athletes to showcase their talent, dedication, and teamwork. Each year, male athletes across the country strive for greatness, pushing their limits to achieve remarkable feats in their respective sports. We celebrate the outstanding achievements of male high school athletes and highlight the prestigious awards that recognize their exceptional performances. From basketball and football to track and field, these athletes have left an indelible mark on the sporting landscape.

Sault Ste Marie local hockey player 20 year old Jack Matier was named the 2023 H. P. Broughton Award winner (Sault Ste Marie’s Sportsperson of the Year). Defenseman Matier who has played for the Ontario Hockey League’s Ottawa 67’s as well as representing Canada on the national stage wearing the maple leaf on his chest in Texas in 2021 with Team U18 Canada along with patrolling the blueline for Team Canada in 2023 at the U20 World Hockey Championships in Halifax, Nova Scotia.  Jack was drafted in the fourth round in the 2021 NHL Draft with the 124th overall pick by the Nashville Predators.
