At Superior Heights Field on Thursday, October 2nd, the first-place Korah Colts (4-0) extended their undefeated run with a dominant 38–16 win over the winless St. Mary’s Knights (0-5) in Sault Ste. Marie Senior High School Football action.
It didn’t take long for the Colts to set the tone. On just the second play of the game, Payton Melchiorre broke free for a 46-yard touchdown run only 22 seconds into the opening quarter. With AJ Coccimiglio converting, Korah quickly held a 7–0 lead. Minutes later, Coccimiglio added a field goal at 6:29 to make it 10–0.
Melchiorre struck again early in the second quarter, rushing in for his second major at the 10-minute mark to push the Colts ahead 17–0 after another successful Coccimiglio kick. St. Mary’s clawed onto the scoreboard with two field goals from Micha Cuglietta—a 21-yarder at 2:14 and an 11-yarder just before halftime—to narrow the gap to 17–6.
Korah wasted no time rebuilding momentum in the second half. At 7:49 of the third, Coccimiglio showed off his versatility with a 36-yard touchdown run, extending the lead to 24–6. Less than eight minutes later, Melchiorre weaved through tackles and dashed 50 yards for his third touchdown of the night, padding the Colts’ advantage to 31–6.
Cuglietta answered for the Knights with a 14-yard field goal midway through the fourth, but Korah continued to roll. Melchiorre capped off his standout performance with a 49-yard touchdown run at 5:09, giving the Colts a 38–9 cushion after Coccimiglio’s convert. St. Mary’s Jahiem Perrault-Dedier closed out the scoring with a six-yard major at 2:21, but it was too little, too late.
With the victory, the Colts maintained their perfect record heading into the final week of the regular season, while the Knights continued to search for their first win.
Next week, St. Mary’s will take on the White Pines Wolverines on Thursday, October 9th, while Korah faces the Superior Heights Steelhawks on Friday, October 10th. Kickoff for both contests is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., with live coverage available on Saultsports TV.
