On Thursday, October 2nd, the second-place St. Mary’s Knights (3-1) and first-place Korah Colts (4-0) clashed under the lights at Superior Heights in a battle of the top two teams in Sault Ste. Marie Junior High School Football action.
The Colts struck first when kicker Nolan Coudert split the uprights with a field goal at 2:57 of the opening quarter to give Korah a 3–0 advantage. The defensive units held strong until the third quarter, when St. Mary’s quarterback Reegan DoZordo connected on a 26-yard strike to set up running back Vinn Volpe-Sagle, who powered in from four yards out for the game’s first touchdown. William Watts added the extra point, pushing the Knights ahead 7–3.
St. Mary’s extended their lead in the fourth when Watts drilled a 19-yard field goal at 7:28, making it 10–3. But Korah answered back quickly. At 4:28 of the final quarter, Kaleb Laitinen broke loose for a 46-yard touchdown run, and Coudert’s conversion evened the score at 10–10.
Just when it looked like overtime was looming, the Knights found their hero. With only 56.1 seconds left on the clock, Adam Provenzano crossed the goal line for the decisive touchdown. Watts’ extra point sealed the dramatic 17–10 victory for St. Mary’s, handing Korah their first loss of the season. The Knights’ 17–10 victory marked their first win over the Colts since before the pandemic.
